Need advise
« on: November 07, 2004, 01:38:36 am »
First off: Got the book. Excellent job Saint.

Next a few questions:

Marquee- Lexan, Lucite, or glass?
Bezel- Lexan, Lucite, or glass? Tinted?
Display- 24" flat screen or 27" regular tv?
Control panel- how many buttons per player? What layout?

I am building a two player CP with a trackball and spinner. I plan on using a tv for the display (cost). The cabinet will be an upright. I want to be able to play almost all games that are mamed. I am using a 2.4 Ghz computer with s-video out.
I would like any help or recommendations.
Thanks

Marquee- Lexan, Lucite, or glass?
Lexan

Bezel- Lexan, Lucite, or glass? Tinted?
Glass.  Tinted or not is your preference.

Display- 24" flat screen or 27" regular tv?
If you are going with a TV, go 27".

Control panel- how many buttons per player? What layout?
7 buttons per.  Layout is your preference as to what feels right.

I'd say go with a 24" flatscreen as long as you take into account s-vid that is.  I personally think that 27" is way to big to be that close to while playing video games, but don't take my word for it, try playing games on a tv that big sitting at the most 3' from it because you can't get much further from an arcade's screen than that.

And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Thanks for the info. I am still looking for a little more input. If anyone else has any recommendations that would be great.

I can't be much help here, but -
Marquee- Lexan, Lucite, or glass?
Might get more response in the artwork forum.

Tinted.  Been asked before.  Opinions vary.  Do a search.  I remember OldSkool and RandyT having comments on it.

I recommend 7 buttons (but maybe six inputs) in an ergonomic modified SF/neo-geo layout as attached.

either the top or bottom row can be 1-3.

The thumb button should be either one of the lower row or upper row buttons, depending on which row you want to use for 4-button games.

Personally, I would go with

    4 5 6
    1 2 3
6

I use the 7 button setup, but it's in line across from the top 3, like ..........OOOO
          OOO

This is so I can play snk fighters that use a 4 button layout like they were ment to be played.
