project arcade cabinet construction ?
« on: October 29, 2004, 11:06:12 pm »
Ive started drawing up the plans that came on the cd with the project arcade book. Im laying everything out in autocad so I will be able to transfer it to mastercam and have the parts cut on a cnc at work. Im also building a solid model to check the design to make sure its exactly what I want, and theres one thing I dont understand. Why is there a open space between the two back panels. Is it to vent heat or just for acess. I would much rather put in 1" x 4" rails plowed into the sides for support and make a solid two piece back with the lower part removable is this going to cause problems with heat? dont real arcade cabinets use a 1/4" back that fits into plows in the sides with a small acess panel at the bottom. has anyone made a inner frame from 2x4's for the panels to mount to are would that be overkill.

I don't have the book, but if you'd rather do x instead of y, go for it.  If you're worried about heat, vent it out the top/back or whatever.  Look at getting a reguler heat vent register from the local Home Depot/Menards/Lowes.  It's your arcade. ;)

My taito cab has a 3/4" back where the whole thing hinges open.  You can literally climb inside.
