Hall Effect joystick by CH Products **upated**
« on: September 16, 2002, 12:19:17 am »
I noticed that Ch Products sells hall effect joysticks of all shapes, sizes, and configurations.  I was wondering if anyone has any technical info about all the various consoles and knows whether or not these would work with a gamepad hack.  I think that would be awesome to have an analog stick along with a digital 8-way on a control panel, but I dont know if these would work or not.  My guess is they would but not sure....

I also wonder whether the Suzo Inductive joysticks can be used in an analogue way. I would say probably not, but you never know.

Here's the link

well I'm pretty sure that nearly all console pads with analog sticks use hall-effect joysticks.  Dreamcast L+R buttons are hall effect too I think.  I would probably be a simple matter of connecting the ext. hall joystick to the gamepad, but since I dont know the specs. on these gamepad or know very much about H.E joysticks then I cant say, but It would be very cool...  Especially with dual analog PSX controllers and USB adaptor for PC!  2 analog sticks, 12 buttons and D-pad which becomes a hat switch in analog mode!  This would make the ultimate control panel....  Maybe even figure out a way of making hall effect hack for postional terminator 2 guns :)

Most console analog controls do not use hall effect.  Some do like the original DC pads, but almost all 3rd party do not (I guess its cheaper to use potentiometers).  Although I'm sure you could still hack/mod the potentiometer sticks to interface with hall effect.

Anyway, how much do these sticks cost?  They don't look like it would be much fun for gaming.  If you want some more suggestions on interfacing analog arcade controls (for console joypads) go to the new console section (not linked into the site yet).
