What voltage are these L.E.D's
« on: September 15, 2002, 08:51:20 pm »
Does anybody know what voltage the leds that are used for num lock.caps lock and scroll lock are? Do different manufacturers use different voltage leds in their keyboards or are they all the same? I want to buy some leds to light up my player 1 and player 2 buttons. I will be wiring the leds to my i-pac. Better yet, does anybody know what voltage leds that Andy Warne uses with his optional led kit for the i-pac?
Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure I've read that the I-PAC supplies 5v off those terminals. Check his site to be sure. If thats the case, then 5v leds  :P
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

I believe the ones that Andy sells are 5V.  I picked up some 6V ones from Mouser for $1.36 each.  Here's a link to the ones I bought.  They have the little chrome mounting bezels and have a built-in resistor, too.  All you need to do is wire them directly to the proper IPAC pins.  They look nice and bright with my IPAC.

I am a dumbass. I don't know why I didn't just check out Andy's site in the first place  ???  You guys are right. He does use 5v leds which is cool because I already have a few assorted color leds laying around and they have built in resistors. I just have to check and see weather they're 5v or not. If they aren't then I will be ordering a few from that site that Oscar provided.
Thanks All

I would think that 5v would be a given on a keyboard interface, as the PS/2 or DIN5 plug actually supplies +5v to the keyboard...  :)
