Control Panel Templates
« on: October 22, 2004, 02:59:12 pm »
Hi, I am just starting to gather pieces for my first MAME cab. I am trying to find some templates for CP layout ideas. I did find a few through this site but I was wondering if there are more out there. I will be creating a CP with: (2) eight-way sticks; (1) happ trackball; (1) homemade spinner; (1) four-way stick; possibly a coin door?
I am looking for advice on number of buttons and layout. I also would love to see some more templates that I could use or modify and use. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...
Why is it when we talk to God we are praying, but when God talks to us we are put into the loony bin?

I don't know if you have the Project Arcade book or not(excellent, excellent book) but included on the CD are some templates for the more popular joysticks that many people go with(Happ and Ultimarc joys mainly). Most people tend to go with 6 buttons for Players 1 & 2. I placed 7 on mine just for the very few games that use them but again, most people go w/ 6 buttons b/c that will cover you for 99% of games. If you plan on doing console emulation down the road then you may opt to go with more buttons but if you are only running mame, then 6 would probably suit you just fine. For the coin door, they are all pretty standard(if you go w/ the over/under style), but I just held mine up to the cabinet door to see where i wanted to place it and i traced around the edge with a pencil and then just cut the wood out. That worked very well for me. Good luck.
