Interfacing PS1 wheel to a PC?
« on: October 21, 2004, 07:02:59 pm »
I have an old PS1 steering wheel and I was wondering what the easiest way to interface it with a PC would be?

Easiest would be to find an adapter and use that. ;) If one doesn't exist, you'll just have to make your own.

If your wheel uses either 100k ohm or 5k ohm pots, then you could interface it via something like Dave's AKI joystick to USB interface.  http://dave.bit2000.com/

Assuming you want to keep using it with your PlayStation, you'd need to find a compatable socket for the wheel's plug, and then wire it to the interface. If not, cut the plug off, and wire it directly.

You can pick up a PS1 to PC interface (usually USB) cheap enough. You'll then be able to keep using the wheel with your PSX and also use PS1/2 gamepads for Mame (windows version mind)

Popcorrin, have you tried the EMS USB2?  The one I have has worked just fine for me when I try to interface PSX devices to my pc (wheel and ddr pad).

I have a ps->usb for mine.  It works well with my actlabs wheel...  Better then their gameport plugin.

if you are going to get one...  look for one that works with stepmania.  1/2 of them do and you never know when you want/find one of the nice metal ones... or when you get kids.
