ID these conversions...
« on: October 21, 2004, 04:55:49 pm »
I was at a local garage and saw some conversions that were clearly Atari cabs.  I could see the Atari serial plate on the back of them.  I don't have pics and haven't been able to find anything like them on klov.

They were shaped a lot like Major Havocs but bigger.  They had that same box on top of a small pedestal with a base slightly wider than the top box.  Half of the top of the base was covered in what looked like metal speaker grille.

I know it's vague, but anyone have any suggestions?  I could probably get them pretty cheap.

No, but you've got the right idea.  The ones I saw had narrow necks between the base and monitor, though.

The ones not previously mentioned, that I can think of at the moment, are:

Xybots
I, Robot

I, Robot actually is the Major Havoc cab AFAIK.

Xybots is the closest I've seen so far.  I'll have to take a pic when I go back tomorrow.

I left Xenophobe off the list because it's a Bally/Midway product, and he said he saw an Atari s/n plate.

What the...?  Xenophobe looks like it!  I swear to GOD there was an Atari serial plate on the back of the one I looked at.

That one, IIRC, had been converted to Badlands.  Maybe for some weird reason they moved the serial plate too.

I took a closer look.  The one I looked at DID have Atari serial plates and stickers and ALSO had Midway artwork on the side.  It was in fact a Xenophobe.

Why the hell would it have Atari serials on it?

Atari put serial number plates in their conversion kits too!
