strobing neon on the cabinet
« on: October 18, 2004, 01:44:45 pm »
Hey all - I'm finishing my first cabinet, and I thought of a great idea I want to share.

I picked up some 12" neon tubes. The type you plug into your car via a cigarette lighter. They strobe to the beat of the music.

Anyway, they run off of 12 volts. I cut off the cigarette lighter plug, and wired them to the yellow wires (12 v) on a power supply. I have a separate power supply just for the coin doors, neon, and trackball light - just incase I screw up - I won't mess up the CPU)

Anyway, the are sound responsive... so whenever asteriods or space invaders goes "boomp...boomp...boomp" the neon blinks in unison with the sounds.

It really rocks.

Pep Boys sells these tubes for about $20 each, but I go tthem at a close out store, Big Lots, of $3 each!!!! What an awesome addition.

By the way, they will oook great when using the cabinet as a jukebox!

well, considering we have seen cabs with lighted speakers, woofers with powered car amps, a cd deck, stainless steel cup holders, and all sorts of lighting, that wouldnt be that far off..  8)
