slow games..
« on: September 14, 2002, 07:04:35 am »
I know it might be a dumb question to ask but does anyone know why my computer is running the games slower all of a sudden? Some of the newer games, like Puzzle Bobble 4, that I used to play at full frame rate are running at like half now. It might have been when I updated to Mame .061 because that's when I noticed it running slow. Mame32 runs pretty well, but I tried windows mame using a front-end, and by itself and they run slow. Anyone have any ideas?

The comp in my cab is a Athlon 700 with 192 megs ram and a ATI All-In-Wonder 128 vid card.

yeah..

some games are like that.when newer mame came out, they added some new driver and took out some old driver and that caused slowdown.

in dino,5th stage has huge slowdown.but it works perfect on mame 37.16

also some games run slow.on your computer ofcourse(700mhz).

sf movie
nba hangtime
and lots of other run slow.get a new computer or give up games that run slow :)

I tried -nosleep 1 and that did nothing at all. I'm checking out more games and notcing that not even Mortal Kombat runs normal now? If this IS the new version of Mame that's causing these games to run slow is it really worth sacrificing the speed of so many good games just so they can add some new ones

Reinstalling Mame .60 as we speak....

First, realize mame isn't coming from a company, so things liek this may occur.  It's the wonderd of open source:)

You can run multiple versions of mame:)

Well, considering the F3 driver just got additional transparency support and ranks near the top for hardware grunt, your machine is quickly becoming underpowered to run it.  Try a 1800XP or higher.

The optimizations change from release to release.... the target machine now is a 1ghz machine.

So they add features that will make the newer games run faster, and slow down the older games that dont' need the changes.  The big one recently was the alpha channel on all games.

this is why many people have more then one version of mame on their cabinets... .36 is the fastest for most games that it ran well... then the latest for all the others.
