HAPP joystick...which is better?
« on: October 16, 2004, 02:20:37 am »
I'm planning to get a HAPP joy + button starter kit from eBay.
They offer 2 types ULTIMATE & Competition.

I've read that they are not as good overall compaired to the HAPP Super.

I know I read a topic here or link to a joystick review.
Can someone point me to the right direction?

BTW...The CP will be for 2 player and will have a dedicated 4-way joy.
Plus the 2 8-way/6 button.  Simple.

Agreed - and general board consensus is the Comp is a better stick, but the square actuator makes it easy to find the diagonals (for good or bad).

I just got my competition joysticks.  I originally bought 4 X-Arcade sticks since they were pretty cheap but i soon learned I needed something much better.  The comp sticks are just like everyone else says: Exactly what you remember from the arcades.

I never even noticed that as Foxfire automatically fixed it for me when hitting the link.  ;)  Another reason to dump IE.  Now back to the previously scheduled thread.

Comps are better then ultimates... Ultimates are great if you don't have the other sitting next to you to compare though.. But if your buying them.. go with Comps

Supers don't have corners.  You can spin them in circles smoothly.  Better for TimePilots and Gyruss, but not as good for fighting games.

Mspacman Ann 4way is a GREAT 4way joystick.

Most don't like their button top joysticks.  One is for crane games and SUCK... The other has a pretty stupid top but I hear its ok -> good...

Consider others also... I like the idea for space for the top change 4/8way joysticks TStick from Andy (and where you might want to get the trackball).  I haven't tried them but I hear they are good... Smaller throw...  But the reviews talk about them.

Thanks so much Lilwolf.
When you compare them with the games of my youth, my little 15w bulb just lit up  ;D

I now have a clear vision of what joysticks to buy for what type of cab.  I can also hear angles singing in the background.

I own both and personally I like the Ultimate better. From what I can remember (been a while) the Ultimate isn't as fat.. it kinda feels better and is more frequently used in arcade machines from what I've seen
