mouse-trak trackball for $25?
« on: October 12, 2004, 02:47:31 am »
Would anyone here be interested in these things?  http://www.mouse-trak.com/deskindu.htm I found a lot of them at a huge electronic/mechanical supply store for $25 each.  They look like new and the movement is really smooth.  The retail price for these is about $300.  I might try to buy them in bulk if there would be enough demand for them.

edit
From what I remember, it seems a bit smaller than my 2 1/4 Wico.  It just might not stick out as much or the ball might be smaller.  I'll find out for sure in the next few days.

Survived a demonstration drop of 500 feet into a plowed field from an airplane

Heck yeah!  I'm in!

Just kidding.  I might be interested, I dunno.  Is it possible to hack it apart to integrate into a control panel?

The "Super strong glass filled Xenoytm thermoplastic case" makes me wonder...

The trackball is 2".  The lip around the trackball isn't very high - less than the width of a quarter.  That would probably be the hardest part of installing in a panel.  Other than that, I'm sure it's possible.  The buttons would have to be removed for it to sit flush under the panel.  The case does come apart.  They also are used but in really good shape.

The guy has 21 of them.  I could probably get them for around $15 if I buy them all.  Please reply if you're interested as I really don't want to sell 20 on ebay.

I'll probably buy one just so I can throw it off the roof.

I wouldn't mind hacking into a $15 trackball.  ;)

Would love more opinions on the hackability of this thing.  If y'all think it won't be too hard to integrate, I'm in.
