what a disaster!!
« on: October 07, 2004, 10:57:52 pm »
Well I got my bezel design from Mamemarquees and bought a large piece of thick poster board to stick it to...THe board was almost too thick to cut..not perfect by any means but I can live with my cuts on that part..

But I totally screwed up the plexi and it cracked...How am I gonna be able to cut out the middle of the plexi to complete my bezel?

Is there any other alternative that would look nice?  Maybe some self adhesive thick acrylic or something?

Also...how hard would it be to get a piece of glass for may bezel cover? (I wouldn't have to cut out the middle then ;D

head on over to a local glass shop, or give an auto glass shop a call and see what they would recommend for you, they'll probabaly recommend another shop, but at least you'll know where to start from.

You can always use Lexan or similar product, lexan can be coated with a special scratch resistant surface that makes it quite durable.

But, your best bet is your local glass shop, they can cut the glass to the exact size you need.   oh yah, you WANT saftey glass, like they use in car windows.  It is very hard to break when hit head on so you don't have to worry too much about it shattering.  Just DON'T hit it edge on.... it will shatter easier that way.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying you want to put plexi over your bezel ONLY, with a hole cut in the middle for your screen.

If that's the case, I ask why?

You say you would like a piece of glass to cover the whole thing, why not use a piece of plexi to do the same thing?

Using a router would give you a smooth cut, but I'm not really clear on exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish.

LOL

I guess I could use plexi without the hole cut in the middle ::)

it's late!!

I also bought 3m super 77 spray adhesive to adhere the bezel to the glass...

I assume this would  work?

Just buy some Lexan at Home Depot.  You have to try really really hard to crack that stuff.  Way more durable than Plexi (in this way at least).

Lexan is shatter resistant, but doesn't it scratch a lot easier?
Still in the collecting parts and ideas phase of cabinet building.

Wait, you want to glue the bezel to the glass?
Will the bezel be visible through the glass? If so, that means the GLUE will be visible too.

Why don't you just do it the simple way (which even commercial games do) and just sandwich the layers?

If you secure it all properly and everything is sized properly, it won't move!
NO MORE!!

OK ;D

Indeed, the super 77 would work, but it won't be necessary.  All you're going to do using that stuff is introduce bubbles into the picture, unless you can somehow roll them all out.  Just sandwich it, like someone stated.

Oh, and still....use a router to cut the shape you need.  Way smoother edges, with MAYBE a light sanding needed, but I've only needed to do that when the bit skipped.
