What about a voice comms server? would anybody be interested? I could host maybe a 20-35 person server maybe more? It might be interesting for tips and such...
any thought?

I suspect this is what happened...

http://www.datasync.com/announce.shtml#091404

So that would mean that the BYOAC chatroom was a victim of Ivan.

Hmmm i donno what type of server/network  you're  looking to set up in, but i do alot of stuff over at Zerofuzion, It's not a Huge net, but it's pretty active, and we have some decent network servers, And i have a pretty good relationship with alot of the net-ops if your interested.  Also there dosn't seem to be alot of "kiddie" intrest in this net atm, which is nice. :)

No, it isn't 100% resolved.  We haven't moved back to datasync yet....

Hal is still not running on Datasync (they run the bot). We are most likely to move permanently to another server, of which one has been offered. It just hasn't been a top priority right now so it hasn't moved forward...

It's my contention, that in the time being, we change the URL of the Java chat room to: IRC.SCIFI-FANS.NET for those who have IRC installed.  Then we can get rid of this sticky.

Edit: didn't work like I'd hoped.  I blame the code!

OK, new java client has been installed and tested as working. It will connect to irc.scifi-fans.net by default now. It's hosted by us so we can swing it in any direction if our chat servers change in the future.

I'm also going to unsticky this topic as all the links now work.

mc,

That is the correct URL, and is working properly in my reference browsers. I tested the functionality with Mozilla 1.6, Firefox 1.0, IE 6.0, IE 5.5, and Opera 7 + Java. Are you you have a properly installed JRE for your machine? What is your client spec with regard to the following:

  • OS/Platform
  • Java Version
  • Browser

Hrm... both 2k under IE 6.0. I have 6.0 under XP and experience no problems. The HTML syntax appears correct to me, but the symptom says otherwise. I'll have to do some further investigation.

edit: There appears to be some discussion on this combination in a Google search. No solutions yet.

edit2: It appears there is no concensus on how to fix this problem. The only think I can suggest is to upgrade the JavaVM to the latest from Sun and see if that eliminates the problem: http://jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=9812
