having trouble with analog controls
« on: October 07, 2004, 06:17:42 pm »
I'm trying to wire up my existing gas pedal on my cabinet so I can use it with MAME.  I've replaced the existing 5K pot with a 100K and wired it to the gameport joystick 1 X-axis (also tried Y-axis).  I tried the MAME parameter to assign a pedal to joystick (can't remember what it was now).  When I hit tab and configure controls the pedal shows "n/a" or "None".  I tried moving the mouse when assigning and it seemed to pick that up.  I went to control panel (Win98) and added a generic 2 axis 2 button joystick but the status shows not connected.  Do I have to have both X and Y hooked up for it to work?  I verified that I'm getting +5v from the gameport and that I'm getting variable resistance from the pot.  I feel like I'm missing something simple, but I don't know what it is.    ???

Yes, just connect the unused axis up to 5v and it should work - I did my pedals this way.

This site is pretty helpful: http://www.gunpowder.freeserve.co.uk/wheels/
