Check this out... Galaga & Ms. Pac-Man Combo Cab?

What do ya guys suppose this is??  Is there some way to combine jamma boards, or do you suppose this is some mame wanna-be thing?

My brother-in-law was about to purchase this till my wife convinced them otherwise.  I think for $1,800 (which isn't even the reserve) is PLENTY to buy parts to build something like this....  Granted the artwork and monitor are probably a chunk of this.

On the other hand, if this is legit, then I bet it would be pretty cool.

So what do y'all think?

It looks like the Ms. Pacman/Galaga Class of 1981 cabinet. There's one at our local bowling alley, but I've never played it because they want 50 cents per game.

it IS the class of '81 cabinet.  They are perfectly legit and made by Namco, or at the very least licensed to someone by Namco.  They have one in the Game Room store in the mall near my house.... pretty cool looking.

Wow, that's cool...   Though I still think $1800 is a tad much for it.  Ehh, I guess I'm biased.  If you hunt around on craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org) and find some.  I found a couple of ones that were Mortal kombat cabinets with multiple jamma's for under $1000.  But I guess they all need some work and since I'm not opposed to it, it's no big deal.

Oh well.

Thanks for the replies guys!

The reason it's high is it's still making money on location so operators will snap them up.  They're still available new from namco so a used one holds it value.

That's odd... the 'Real' version of this cabinet/tandem has a main welcome screen where you choose which game to play.

I'm not sure they actually used the Konami code for that game, but since the game is "only Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga" they threw pac man in as a kind of bonus.  That's why you have to enter something to get to it.

These machines have been out for years haven't they?  At least I've been seeing them for a long time.  There's a billiards place & a Mall around here that both want...are you ready for this?  $1 per game.

Needless to say, I didn't pay it.

That's just insane.

It's been out since '00 IIRC.

Pac-Man is a secret bonus.  It tells how to get to the game on the flyer.

These retail new for about $2600. They are 100% official, so for the price you get not only 100% brand new professional factory quality, but all the warranties that usually come with a new product.

Still sound pricey? Well they aren't meant for the home. That price is average for a coin-op meant to go on location somewhere to take in cash every day.

They've been around since 2000 / 2001.

They have one of these in the Starburst Coin showroom in Toronto.  I think it was selling for $2000 CDN.

Before you (or your brother in law) buy one, you better go out and see one in an arcade or something. I took several pictures of one (hunting for Galaga artwork) and I thought it was the worst looking cab I ever saw. The screen is too big (which I found makes it hard to play the game) and the artwork is really poorly done (very coarse halftoned print).

Jeeesh, haven't you guys ever seen these? They have been available for over 4 years.

Another difference is that they have an over sized monitor. 25" I believe.

I saw one at a movie theater here and the first thing I noticed was that it looks like the artwork was scanned from some previously existing printed artwork, which always looks crappy. (hard not to get a moir

These are official Namco releases. They do NOT shoot faster or play different in any way except that you can continue your game after you die.

They do NOT have stickers of coin doors. They have real coin doors. These are Namco cabinets. The reason that they sell for so much is because when put on location they make money, plus they are a hell of alot more reliable than the originals.

You guys do know that original Pac-Man cabinets used to sell for close to $3000 when new. Right? And that is in 1980 dollars!

Based on inflation, the reliability factor, and the fact that it's three games in one, it's actually a reasonable price.(cough)

They do NOT have stickers of coin doors.

I have seen them with stickers for coin doors.  These are sold as a "home" version.  The ones meant to be on location of course have coin doors.
see here:
http://www.bmigaming.com/games-video-mm.htm
also from namco's website:
We've included operator selectable features such as "regular" or "speedy" Ms. PacMan, and "original" or "rapid fire" Galaga

Here's a pic from Namco's site of the same one I saw with the fake coin door sticker.

And I'm quite sure the one I played was set on the "rapid fire" the poster above mentioned as being an operator selectable feature. It definately seemed to be shooting faster. My buddy who was with me playing it, himself a big Galaga fan, thought the same thing.
