IPAC or Hacked Joysticks.
« on: September 10, 2002, 09:04:39 pm »
This should be the last question for awhile, as I'm in the proccess of ordering parts I need. Should I get an IPAC or buy some hacked joysticks? I know its a personal choice, but I dont know enough about all this to make a valid choice. I'm thinking the IPAC will be easier to connect to the buttons, and the joysticks however. Or maybe I got this whole IPAC thing wrong...
Great big gobs of greasy grimey gopher guts.

The ipac is a great choice.

The Ipac is great tool for MAME cabinets...

It goes back to the whole cost vs time vs features thing...

The ipac is well worth the 40 beans plus shipping (or whatever it costs)  as it's feature rich,  is flexible, and is a time saver...

But if you totally scrapped for cash or just really like soldering a few wires on to a pcb a sidewinder gamepad hack is cheap and easy...  (that's what I'm currently using... but will get an ipac for control panel revision 2)

IMHO, if you have the duckets, 'I'd go for the ipac...

I really enjoyed tearing apart and hacking a keyboard, so I am sure I would have enjoyed gamepads as well. However, been there - done that. My keyboard lost the ESC, TAB and most of Player 2 controls for some reason. Now that I have crossed the hacking bridge, I ordered an IPAC.

I agree... Been there, done that...  My first was a keyboard hack.  It works great, and didn't cost much to do that, but from now on I'm an IPac man.  I just bought 2 of them (shiping is the same if you buy 2 as if you buy 1), so that I'm ready for not only the present project, but the next also.
