Just checking: leaf switch sticks and buttons
« on: October 02, 2004, 10:34:04 pm »
I just picked up a Narc cab and discovered it has all leaf switches.  Two sticks and 10 lightable buttons.  What would be a realistic price to ask if I want to sell these off?  (I have never used anything but microswitch sticks and buttons, so leaf switch ones feel weird to me.)

If they are in good condition the leaf joys are worth maybe 8-10 each and the buttons a buck or 2 a peice.  You can always check eBay for the going rate on these as they show up a lot.

Eyedoc, Quite often Williams would illuminate their buttons since they used translucent pushbuttons on most of their early games. Does your Narc panel have lamps mounted underneath to light them up and if so did they use the button holders that have the lamp socket built right on to them or are the little lamps mounted seperatly and just screwed into the wood next to the button ? I ask because I have a few of the Wico leaf switch button holders with lamp mounts built right into them but I've never seen a picture of one that has the actual lamp attatched so I don't know what kind of sockets or bulbs that I'm supposed to attatch to these mounts.
Thanks.

They have the sockets mounted next to the button, not built in.  They look pretty cool, so I may just keep them.  It's just hard getting used to the feel of leaf switches.

Hehe, I have the same issue but it's the other way around.  I am very used to leafs and whenever I play something with microswitches it feels weird.

I recently replaced my Galaga's microswitch joystick back to the original leaf joy. Feels much nicer since it also has rubber stops for when you really ram the joy side to side.

Now as for the buttons, they're microswitch right now, but I JUST got an order in from Bob Roberts. I'll be putting some brand new (and correct colors) leaf buttons back in there. We'll see how it feels...

I have that 2 way Galaga joy too (love it) but it seems to be a little loose.  Is yours tight?

I can tell you how it will feel RayB. Exactly the way it was originally supposed to feel which is a hell of alot better then microswitch controls. ;D

Yeah, my Galaga joy is a little loosey. But only when in the middle position. It doesn't seem that bad though.

All this talk of leaf buttons makes me regret my recent order of microswitch buttons! (I have a really tightly packed CP, so I didn't want the long leaf holders...)

Any of you use the leaf holders that require the seperate spacers?

How do you mount it? Do the spacers go against the control panel back and then the holder on top of the spacers? or is it the other way around, with the holder against the panel, and the spacer on top, followed by the pal nut?

PS: I don't like these new leaf switch holders. Asides from having a built in mount for a lamp-holder, they are very cheapy!
