I need a conversion mounting plate for T-Stick Plus to Happ plate
« on: September 30, 2004, 11:13:36 pm »
Anyone know of a conversion plate or made one to convert an Ultimarc T-stick/plus to fit a Happ bolt configuration?

I'd like to be able to use either and interchange.

Any replies appreciated!

I would also be interested in this but I don't think it exists.

looks like one could be made out of some aluminum flat bar.  Take off existing top plate and use it as a template?

I'll make one and post some pics.  If there's enough interest, I'll make some up for others here.

I need one of these also. I contacted Andy, and he said that they do not have one, and he did not realize that it was a problem. I have a "friend" making one for me. I have been waiting about a month. So...if someone can make some I would be interested.
Thanks, Patrick

What would people be willing to pay for an item such as this?  I can make them out of aluminium or steel and I have no idea if it would be worth my time to produce in quantity.  I think I've got the material on hand to make about a dozen or so.

I'm not trying to start a business here & make a major profit, just don't want to gear up for a losing cause of both time & money.

Give me some idea as to what you would feel is a fair price.

My idea is to make the adapter fit the same footprint as the happs.  That way, you could add a T-Stick and have it fit eh existing bolt pattern of the happs.  It will not look like an adapter!  It will fit exactly where the current mounting plate is on the T-Stick.  It will be the same thickness as the T-Stick mount, only with the correct hole pattern.

I'll await some replies to decide.

I'd be very interested in this as well, but as far as cost and price go, not sure what would be fair.

This would be very useful to me. There is definitely a gap in the market for mounting plates and not just for T-Stiks.

I like to experiment with different types of joystick and it's annoying that there are two different bolt pattern standards out there.

I think about $10 would be a fair price.

This reminds me of an ancient thread I started over a year ago.

Would you consider manufacturing your plates to this design so that the T-Stiks could be mounted on the underside of the control panel?

Very interesting read!

I've not mounted my T-Stick Pluses yet, but the shaft length is the same as the Happ with the wood control panel spacer.

I've got  2 Ultimarc T-Stick Plus Joys, 2 Happ Super Joys & 2 Happ Ultimate Joys.  Other than the Happ adapters for wood or metal Control Panels, I see no height difference in between the Happ (with wood adapter) and the T-Stick Plus.  ???

According to the Ultimarc site, control panels thicker than 1/2 inch need to be routed out if the T-Stick is being mounted underneath, in order to maintain the stick length above the panel.

On my original NBA Jam Cab, the Happ Joys were mounted from the bottom with no routing of any sort.  This had a combo of wood & metal that equalled 3/4" in height.  How high would you want the sticks to be, above the control panel?

I can make either design & thank you for bringing this to light!

I need to make a couple of experimental pieces before I settle in on the proper design.  I'm fully open for suggestions and want to contribute to the community.

I think $15-$20 for a pair, shipped, would be a fair price.  I wouldn't need it as a wood control panel adapter, just a T-stick+ to happ bolt pattern adapter.

Unfortunately, it's not easy to judge in advance what the optimum joystick height should be until you've built your control panel and tested it with a few games. But it's quite easy to lower a joystick that is too high by making a wooden spacer. So I think the safest approach is to start off with a joystick that is as high as possible and then lower it if necessary.

Also, I think that if you do decide to get these plates manufactured, you should ensure that they are compatible with both bolt patterns for maximum flexibility. It's weird that IL didn't do this when they designed the T-Stik's plate. All they needed to do was make the plate a bit bigger and drill 4 extra holes.

I've just spent 10 minutes staring at the rectangle pattern of holes on my t-stick and the square pattern on my arcade cabinet for  wondering how i could have missed such a detail... :-[

as a result i too would be interested in a conversion mounting plate  ;)

My cabinet has a very thin metal panel so idealy the plate would be as thin as possible so i could just attach the sticks to them and then that to the cabinet leaving as much stick height as possible.

Agreed, like Sanwa do with the J-Stik plates.

I realize this is a very old thread, but did anything ever come about from this?

Yeah, I actually started that thread, just wondering if anyone was making any "professional" plates rather than the homebrew kind.  Anything I'd do myself might look a little half-assed.
