Cheap pc's at walmart.com....800mhz for $199
« on: September 09, 2002, 01:59:30 pm »
Here is the link:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1957333&cat=3951&type=19&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A3951

I have not tried one...and I do not know anything about the via processor, but it seems pretty darn cheap....

If anyone has uses a similar pc please respond, I am curious how it works.  I would forget the Lindows os and install win98se.
Oh, the memories of living on pizza subs and Dr Pepper...

VIA processors are AMAZING....

but not for emulation (or most applications really).

the 800 mhz processor doesn't require a fan or a heatsinc.  This can be great for quiet gaming.  No motors at all.. but that is about as close as I can see for emulation

where their great is in industrial computing when you need a machine to be stuck at the top of a tower, and you don't want to have to climb back up to replace a fan.

basically the fastest computer right now that doesn't require a motor or moving part of any type

for better deals on computers, stop looking at stores, and go to www.pricewatch.com.

What the heck is "LindowsOS"?!?!?!? Is it a rip off of windows? $200 is pretty cheap but that makes me wonder why it is so cheap. I would like to see a screen shot of Lindows though.  :)

Wow, some really good prices on there.  Why does EVERY damn computer in the world come with CRAP video and audio on board now?  I haven't had to deal with this before, is it just as easy to put in a real SB and video card and just bypass the preinstalled garbage?  Thanks for your hints ...

The best application I've seen of this is in the Shuttle SV24 Spacewalker case.  it's so tight, that a passive cooling solution works well (BTW, they do need a heatsink, just not a fan).

Check out www.lindows.com.  Although, their tagline of "Linux meets Windows" makes me think that it's probably the worst of both worlds.  ;)

"Whistler" was indeed the beta of Windows2000.  It's buggy because...well, it's beta.

Reminds of a Cheers Scene:

"Ooo, tonight is all you can eat Loobster night at the Hungry Hefer!"
"Don't you mean Lobster?"
"Um........ noooooo."
