Question - Adding a Spinner (Connect through Trackball?)
« on: September 20, 2004, 10:02:11 pm »
I bought the following from Happ ...

http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/565600xx.htm

(2-1/4" TRACKBALL WITH USB AND PS/2 INTERFACE)

If I bought a spinner, is there anyway to connect the spinner to this interface board as well? ... or would I need to get another package all together.  i.e. something like this ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5124512390

???

Any help would be appreciated.

Probably not.

You might be able to do something, but I think it would be inefficient.

Instead...

goto oscarcontrols.  Pick your favorite spinner, your favorite knob... Then order a prehacked usb mouse.  They are 9 bucks and SUPER easy and a small percentage of a new spinner will cost.

but the troubles.

Well, two usbs work great on windows...  But they both work at the same time.  So if you hit the spinner a little when using the trackball (or other way around) it will combine the values sent.

solutionsish.

use AnalogMame+ (or NoNameMame) which seperate them.  And all spinner games you setup to mouse 1 and trackball games to mouse 2 (or whatever they are setup as).

But both builds are usually a few versions old.  Not a big deal... just requires you to keep more then one version of mame installed on your cabinet.

Quite possibly not a problem tho, as long are you remember this fact when playing (ie don't touch the control you're not using)...

Perhaps more of a problem if you have friends/family who also know this happens, and enjoy ruining your game!  :(

the current Trackball from Happs only has a PS/2 interface though ... how does a PS/2 & a USB work together?

btw, this is why I ended up rewiring my first control panel that had the 1st player 8way and the 4way controller hooked to the same inputs.

When playing streetfighter with a friend of mine... he would grab the 4 way EVERY time I was about to get him.

But after removing that feature... Now he goes after me.  Your about to do a super upper cut special super move because they are dizzy... and wham!  shoulder tackle from the side!

Just curious but is an opti-pac out of your price range? It will solve your problem.
