New CP were is a good spinner location?
« on: September 17, 2004, 04:22:21 pm »
Well the time has come to build a new CP and I would like to know the best looking and easy to use spot on my new CP layout for a spinner. There isn't one on my old CP. If I should move other items please let me know. This is very rough! Colors are just for contrast.  TY in advance.

Just to the left of the 4 way seems like a good spot.

Well you just confirmed what I was already thinking of doing. So unless there is another idea out there I think I will go to the left of the 4-way. I won't be starting it for a week so any other ideas out there please post.

Here's what I would do dude... Moved the player start buttons, moved the 4-way over... etc

Here's my thinking... When you use a 4 way it's usually with your left hand. And when you use a spinner, it's usually with your right hand. So it's ok to offset them the way i did in this diagram. The 4 buttons in the middle are "shared" for the 4 way and the spinner.

Could be because I am left handed but I really dont think I would feel comforitable with the spinner on the right side. A CP should be about comfort. Sorry RayB but Apollo's idea works for me thanks anyway. Still I may change how it all lines up and give it a new center since like you showed the spinner will offset it. TY anyway.

Which buttons are being used for the trackball? ???

I like the layout RayB posted and may go that route with mine.  I do like the shared buttons for the 4-way & spinner.

Baron, if you are left-handed, then just reverse the locations of the spinner and 4-way. See Right-handed people use the joystick with their left hand, so I'm thinking left-handers would use their right??

It is funny you say that but believe it or not I guess from the way I grew up playing in arcades I like the joysticks to the left. Now I do use my comp's mouse with my right hand and plan to use the track ball with my right while using the player 1 button's on the 8-way. So I am back to maybe using RayB's idea and place it to the right of the 4-way buttons. I will make a test panel to make sure. Thanks for all the feedback so far! I think were it lines up will decide it all. If I rest my arms on the panel don't want to be hitting the player 1  buttons with my arm. To avoid that I may have to go a bit longer with the CP. I will find out soon enough. Here is a rough pic of a bit wider.

Here is another possible solution it makes my cp smaller but it also will let me reach and use which ever buttons I want for both the spinner and trackball. Some empty space up at the top outside areas but fixed with some artwork unless I decide to add something else.
