Coin Door Question
« on: September 15, 2004, 11:10:02 am »
Hi,

I have an arcade cabinet that's just about finished and I'm looking into getting a coin-door for it. My arcade is going to support 4 players so I'm wondering if I should try to find a 4 player coin door or would it work if I bought two, 2 Player coin doors? I could really use some advice on what would be good to buy(I'm not looking for something expensive here either). Also, what would be a good source to purchase one from? If anyone could give me any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Also, I'm looking for the illuminated, coin reject style coin door. Thanks.

4 Player coin doors can be hard to come by.

It would probably be easier to buy two over/under 2 player doors.  I've seen a few 4 player games do it that way.  Or you could use a single 2 player door and a shift key to determine when the 3rd and 4th player would receive credit.

I do have a few new 2 player Happ's type over/under coin doors I'm selling for $50 each plus $15 each shipping if you're interested, or you could find some used ones on eBay for probably around $30 that would be in decent condition.  My doors do come with 2 coin mechs, coin tub and two sets of keys for each door.  If you are interested let me know.

My answer to the 4 player coin door issue was to rig 2 extra coin switches for them:

I added 2 microswitches so that the coin reject buttons would trip them. These were intended for player 3 and 4 coin input.

In reality, I've reprogrammed my Ipac so that the reject buttons mirror the coin slots.   I don't really play 4 player games that often (I haven't finished my 4 player panel yet  :-\)

As far as lighting the coin rejects. You just have to get 5v or 12v (depending on the bulbs you use) to the lights.

Good luck,

Rocky

A lot of Konami games. like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Simpsons and many others all used two 2-player coin doors. They are much more common than a single 4-player coin door.

This may not be what you want, but it's pretty cheap.  This is from Happs, it's a coin mechanism - NOT a full door, and has no box to catch the coins.  Basically, if you attach this to the front of your cab you can drop quarters in it to play.  It does not include a door, so if the front of your cab doesn't have a door built into it you can't open it up.

It is a cheap alternative, they are only $24.00 each.  They also take up very little room.  That's why I bought 2 of them for my cab, I was willing to sacrifice the door & catch box for the small space it needed to go into.

Happs part number 40-0023-00P.  It comes with the standard US 25 cent mechanism.  Make sure this will suit your needs before you buy them, they aren't a standard arcade coin door.
