Sit-down Cabinets
« on: September 15, 2004, 06:03:19 am »
I would like to build a sit-down cabinet - the enclosed type. The difficulties I am having are these:
1) I have none locally that I can go and measure;
2) I do not know which games came in this type of cab; and
3) I cannot find any plans online for this type of cab.
Can anyone help me please?
Many thanks.

CLOSED COCKPIT
Sinistar <-- There are plans floating around for that one.

OPEN COCKPIT:
Outrun (1 & 2)
Off Road Thunder

Page through www.klov.com and keep this list going.  It would make a nice reference.

The big Tron environmental cab (does that count?).  Hard drivin' was a sit down, although, I seem to remember it wasn't fully enclosed. Out run and Turbo Out Run also had sit down versions.

I've done a bit of research on cockpits in my quest to build one for my hubby  ;D

I have found some free plans for the sinistar seat at the following:
http://www.mameworld.net/massive/How-to/Cabinet_Plans/cabinet_plans.html

You can buy commercial plans for a cockpit at:
http://www.cybertechdesign.net/mameroom//home.htm (I have no idea what these are like)

I bought these plans off this guy on ebay for $5.00 and now he has them for free. Haven't built it yet though but looking forward to it!

That one looks too much like a box for my tastes. Kind of like an old Volvo.

Also it seems to not have a very enclosed look to it. By the screen and by your head it is completely open.

Good place to start with dimensions though, and the rest can come with your own creativity.

I wish I had more space. Soooooooo much I want to make. I'd really like to build another Xbox cab (aside from the one I am currently making) to house driving games, and to house my Steel Battalion.

Ahhhhh the dreams. I am really beginning to think that finding this site was more of a curse. :)

Anyone remember those Battletech cockpits?
One of those might be cool for something like Steel Battalion.
