Hey GameDork! Monaco GP lives.

Monaco GP is FUN!..

Finally got that thing going..

The problem is had were the following..

Power it on, random game elements on the screen.
Solution.. I took out all of the game boards.. (All 4 of them) and reseated each socketed chip and took a wire brush to the edge connectors.

After that game boots fine, but steering is screwey.

Soultion.

Found another control panel (populated) on ebay for 19.99.
The original control panel had the wiring harness cut off and soldered directly to the wiring harness, bypassing the quick disconnects.

I removed the optical board and microswitch for the gear lever, and transfered them to the old one. (The shifter on the old one was in much better shape.) Then I transfered the actual wheel from the new one to the original. Now I have the sega logo in the middle of the wheel.

Next problem..

Gas pedal is really, really hard to find the spot where it will actually accelerate.

Soultion..

Took me a good 10 mins just to figure out how to get at the pedal assy.
I though it would be some form of a pot, but when I got in there it's 2 optical sensors.

Took a few mins to realign the assy, (it had shifted over the years and could barely make the double contact for full acceleration)

Yahoo!!!

Nothing like getting a truly OLD game back from the dead..

(With no soldering to boot!)

Now to find some 5v GI bulbs for the marquee!

BTW...
klov entry..
