Well, I had a few moments tonight to finally unpack my new Act Labs gun and give it a try.  So far I

I hooked up the gun to my W-G 9100 and it seems to be working okay now.  I guess it's not as accurate as I was hoping, but it's definitely working better than it was on my PC monitor.

When I play police trainer there is a section where you have to fire ten shots into a target that looks like a sillouette of a man with different point values for different areas , I thought I was loosing my mind . I would fire a bunch of shots and then the cross hairs would move to the side of the screen , Like I shot way off target but I was aimed dead on!
You may be on to something about the flash throwing off the targeting . I don't seem to be having as much trouble as you , but that one section of police trainer is the only time I've had to pull the trigger as fast as possible on one target. I will test the rapid fire with the windows desktop
and post my results tomorrow.

I don't know anything about light gun technology... so take this with a grain of salt...  Is your 19" PC monitor a flat screen monitor (not LCD, but flat) ... maybe the guns are used to the slight curve on PC screens (It's a shot in the dark (pun intended) hypothesis on my part with only a handful of assumptions and guesses to go on...) *shruG* YMMV

The screen flash is what the gun is using to determine your aim.  If it did not flash, then dark areas would never register a hit.
I was not aware the gun worked at 1280x1024, but what should improve it's accuracy is to increase brightness, and possibly contrast.  Also make sure there is no glare on the screen from a light source behind you.

Excatly my sugguestion before (cranking the brightness and contrast).  Also setting your resolution to 640x480@60hz.  That should increase your accuracy (easier for the gun to real the pixels).

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

rampy - I did think about that, because I am using one of those true-flat monitors that has the curvature on the inside of the tube.  That was why I tried it on my W-G, and it did show some improvement.  I wonder if my problems weren't a combination of a couple of things.

JMD - Yeah, I didn't word my explanation very clearly.  I realize that the flashing is what registers the shots, but it seemed that when the shots were very rapid, causing the screen to flash very rapidly, is when the problems were at their worst.  That's what I meant by the flashing causing the mis-targeting.

Dave - I guess I didn't set my res low enough.... The lowest I tried was 1024x768@75Hz.  By setting it at 800x600@75Hz, everything has improved greatly!  The Act-Labs site says the gun supports resolutions up to 2048 x 1940, but I had difficulty with 1024x768.  I'm sorry I missed your previous post about those settings.

Thanks again, everyone!
