Troubleshooting Trackball Optics
« on: September 11, 2004, 02:46:24 pm »
Heeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!
I'm desperate, i've bought a couple of weeks ago a brand "new" WICO 3" imperial Trackball, I've been trying to interface the thing using a mouse hack. I've used up to three different mice and no luck. I dunno what to do, I think my trackball has optic problems,

how can I troubleshoot the optic boards, just in case they're bad

All the mice that I've used work, I've used Ps2 and serial mice, I've used up all them tutorials I can find on the internet but still no luck, i'm desperate :(

oscar has a pretty good writeup on troubleshooting an optic board without having it connected:
http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=21725;start=msg175770#msg175770

that being said, what kind of problems do you have?  are you using logitech mice?  are you wiring to the receiver, not the emitter?  did you reboot the computer to make sure it is detecting the mouse properly?

I did oscar recommendations and it seems to be working ok, but I can get the darn thing working, well I'm using genius kye mouse, and 2 unbranded mice. When I plug the mouse it doesn't work. I got one that the mobo detects it but when it goes to windows it says that there's no mouse plugged in. I dunno what to do!!

I'm wiring the three prong thing, the receiver.

:S

I've finally did it!! :D It worked!!

Here's what I did, I looked at the IC in the mouse and looked for it on the net, It's a EM8540AP you can download the documentation that explains the whole function about that IC, I also noticed that three of the four gutted mice used the same IC. It's so simple with that reference.

I recommend that when your lost and hopeless look at the IC's technical reference It's quite a HELP :D

so how did the IC schematic help?  did you directly solder everything to the IC?
