max cp thickness for short translucent leaf buttons
« on: September 03, 2002, 11:38:01 pm »
Hey Guys
Does anybody know how thick of a panel the short translucent leaf switch buttons will allow without routing out my cp?  Also, what size hole do the leaf switch buttons require? I currently have happ horizontals on my cp and I have a very bad feeling that the holes are already too big to accept leaf  switch buttons. Nobody has long stem translucent buttons for wood cp's except for one or two colors so I'm considering using the short ones which seem to be more readily available. If in fact the microswitch button holes are too big than I guess I'll be starting over with a metal control panel. Backlit translucent buttons are a must in my eyes.

(Please note, the follwoing CP description is the result of a first time CP designer, who has yet to execute these plans, so take this with a grain of salt.)

I feel the same way about the translucent leaf buttons. Actually, microswitches manufactured to have the same look as the leaf would be fine with me, but I digress...

I had two goals when designing my CP:
1. Make it functional, being able to play the maximum number of my favorite games at least reasonably well.
2. It had to look really cool. that means: illuminated buttons, (preferrable the old leaf style as they look the coolest and bring back memories,) illuminmated trackball, kick ass overlay graphics, no mounting plates.

Here is my plan:
My CP is going to be constructed with 3/4"wood, with a metal plate next, CP graphics over that, then  plexi or lexan over the top. The wooden base will basically act as a frame, 1" thick all the way around the underside of the CP. For the most part, it will be a metal CP.

I really did not want to have to do this, but as I said, style was a key factor, and I can't find long leaf buttons anywhere, so I resolved to go short.

BTW, does anyone know where I can get white or clear leaf pushbuttons. Were there ever any made?
