Hehehe, all us Aussies and our musical connections!

Back on topic. If you purchased it in Sydney may I ask where from and a rough price? Did they have any more?

Eventually I'm looking to do a cocktail as my next project.

just to be clear, i *will* be playing it not just using it as a coffee table...

I know.  We're just goofing with you.  As for the monitor, I'm not sure but it does seem a little small to be the standard (if you're going by the Pac-Man cocktail shown here http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10816.

what are the other cocktails, the ones that are more lower to the ground, not so verticle? am i thinking of Galaga?

I think the more 'vertical' ones are usually the US style.  Jap / UK (Aussie too?) style cocktails are a lot wider, like this Space Invaders one: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9662

I have a UK Galaga in similar style, I think the screen is 14", possibly 13" (?)

Have fun when it arrives :)

No one's answered because we're not exactly sure what cabinet you've got.  You may have a conversion, it's extremely possible.  Can you post a picture?

just to be clear, i *will* be playing it not just using it as a coffee table...it will *just* be replacing the coffee table in terms of space

I wasn't being serious, I was just being my goofy, loveable self. ;D

That is one of the real nice things about a Cocktail style cab, it can double as furniture in a pinch. I think that's why the majority of them are woodgrain laminate, so that they blend in to a non-arcade environment a little better.

Dedicated cabinets are very rare in Australia. A Pac-Man with a 14" monitor is not dedicated, as all dedicated Pac-Man cocktails had 19" monitors.

Actually, more to the point almost ANY game with a 14" monitor is not dedicated, as almost no original manufacturers used that size in their games apart from Sega. (13" was a common size though).

I'm guessing the design is more like the one that can be found
http://home.iprimus.com.au/ozstick/prod_cocktail.html?

I hadn't even seen the design with the controllers on the 'short' ends until recently...  all the ones I've seen in Australia are the above design.

I think these were made by 'Leisure & Allied Industries'.

We talked for a loooong time on windows messenger last night, and I located her an identical cocktail on ebay.au for less than half the price.

I think in the last 2 months I've probably seen more cocktails on ebay.com.au than I had the previous six months. People are always going on about how rare they are but i'm not as convinced. From what I see Australia is full of generic LAI lowboys and cocktails and very few dedicated cabs as paige mentioned.

This is about as close as I've seen to a dedicated cocktail;

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=575&item=6117124475&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

If only I had enough money to burn and more were listed in Sydney then I'd snap one up to mame no worries. Apart from the one linked above, I wouldn't feel bad about Mame-ing it either.

Another thing stopping me is that most of the ones I've seen (ebay and in general) have the CP mounted directly on the side of the cab which makes it tough to play after a while in shooters. Funny thing is Chris from Ozstick (Melbourne) tells me almost all the cocktails from his area have a cp like in the link above.

Maybe I should move to Melbourne lol.

By the way, the ebay one is not original, as Pac-Man never came in that style of table, and neither Namco nor Midway ever distributed Pac-Man in Australia and Leisure and Allied was unable to get the rights to sell it there either.

Like I have said, there aren't really any "original" pac-man machines in Australia.

The ebay one has a bootleg board anyway, I can tell from the screenshot, the maze is different than the Namco/Midway version (don't let that scare you off though, like I said, all Australian pacs are unoriginal bootlegs)..

Nah, I just come to learn.

However Paigeoliver does seem to be THE man for anything arcade cabinet related, The Monitor Guru & Ken Layton could probably write the definative book on Monitors, Howard and Minwah are software legends...

You get the idea. For every aspect of this hobby there's someone who specializes in it which makes things easier for the rest of us folk.
