removing old ruined side art?
« on: September 04, 2004, 04:42:45 pm »
i've searched around the boards and there's plenty of info on how to recover side art that's been painted over, but i've got a 10 yard fight cabinet where the side art (i'm guessing vinyl) is in horrible shape and i want to remove it before i repaint the cab.  what is the best way to remove the vinyl and adhesive so i can sand and prep the cab for repainting?

thanks

Heat gun or blow dryer, and start peeling.  Take off the adhesive with Goo Gone.

hair dryer worked great on the vinyl.

i'll have to wait until tomorrow when i can get my roomate to help me move the cabinet outside to try the goo gone on the adhesive.

I used a can of "Grafiti Remover" spray.  Basically I sprayed the heck out of one side of the cabinet (Remember to lay it flat).  Wait about 5-10 minutes unit the vinyl starts to bubble and just peel it all off with a putty knife.

You can also use ZIp Strip (4 coat remover).
The Flight Yoke Release date is September 10, 2005.

i took the "bull in a china shop approach" to remove the sideart from my main event cab.  belt sander and 50 grit paper. if you do it carefully, it will work perfectly...if you press too hard, you are gonna have ruts in your cab.
