Problem with Happ Super Joystick
« on: September 01, 2004, 06:16:11 am »
Hi!

I totally rewired the control panel of my three-year-old mame cab yesterday, and everything worked fine until tonight.  When I click the joystick 'right', the corresponding microswitch registers two keystrokes.  It registers one when the microswitch is pressed, and one when the switch is released.  This seems to totally confuse mame, so I'm thinking i need to replace the switch.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Up, left, and down all register just one keystroke.

 ;)

Sounds like a bad microswitch. Just change it out and your problem should go away.

1st rule of data-comm: check the cable!  Sounds like you wired to the NO and NC instead of the NO and GRND!  Thoughts?

I swapped out one of the microswitches from the Player 2 stick into the one in question on the Player 1 stick, and it works fine, so yeah it's just a bad switch.  I emailed happ about it and they're sending me a couple of replacements free of charge.  Nice folks they are!

I had a similiar issue with one of my micro switches, it would push in and then stick.   It was starting to get frustrating when I traced all my connections and couldn't find the problem.   Haven't had any more problems since putting the new switch in.

I wonder how many people have had issue's with bad micro switches?
