I'm not sure if the inner metal brackets on my game are original, because something was imperfect about their installation that made me think they were added later.  I don't know how I could tell for sure though, short of finding another one to compare to.  :dunno

Do you want to know where the exposed bolt heads are for the inner brackets?

TTYL,
Wade

Cool Wade.  I've added a few brackets and CP wiring access holes.  I'm done until new dims arrive.  8)  Because I don't have access to any CP hinges that resemble the original T&F ones, I've created a simple right angle bracket to which a normal straight hinge can be attached too.  It will operate the same way as the original.

No big deal!

Nope.  I'm not going to have any exposed bolt heads.  Keeping it cleaner than the original.  Plus, other people may want to use different mounting bracket set-ups or different monitor configs/sizes.... hence, bolt locations will change.  I'll stick with parts of the cabinet that will not/or will most likely not change.  I won't be adding the monitor cut-out either... for the reason I aforementioned (different monitor set-ups)

Cheers m8

Wade supplied me with some more dimensions.  God fricken bless him!   However, it seems a few areas were out in a couple of major places.  so... had to redo the CP's, Glass and support areas.

So, the render is compiled with a combination of Jakobuds plans (originally from Dims by Wade anyway) and Wade's updated dims, in conjuction with a shite load of digital pics from Wade.
However, a very small handfull of dims related to the CP's and Glass areas are still out by no more than 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch.  With so many curves and angled bits, you only have to be off 1/16 of an inch, in your original measurements, for it to compound.   I also redesigned the CP/Glass support areas for easier material construction, inside the cabinet.  The premise is still an external asthetic replica, just sensibly updated.

BUT, I think I have found a very happy, slightly modded medium.  I just need to compile the extendable base and it will be finished.

Here's some x-ray shots at it's current stage.....

#edit#  Now with extension base..

Two hours before work..... and it's done! :)

And that's it for now.. My Patio materials arrive on Tuesday as well as the lads helping me out on the backyard retaining walls..   So.. with 2 big jobs running side by side.. I'll be flat chat for 2 or 3 weeks..

Cheers

#EDIT#
I've used 3/4" furring strips in the render, to put the main cabinet together (Just how the extension base was made originally).  I know the original cabinet is held together with some brackets (Such as around the access door).  Not sure if the rest of the main panels are held together with furring strips or brackets.  Regardless, I surmise people will make personal choices in relation to this, based on available materials.

Drew, let us know when u want the dimensions.  I'll find some time to add the dims and send you a shite load of jpegs!! ;D

Looks sweet Spriggy!

The bottom line on the differences between my own dims is I'm simply not able to measure things with an accuracy of more than about 1/16" or even 1/8", especially in certain areas like curves and such (the metal bar that supposts the glass is a good example - some of the bends on it aren't well defined).  I simply don't have the tools. :(  I don't have calipers or even a highly precise yard stick.  Most of my tools are just common construction tools.  The tick marks on my yardstick are probably 1/32" thick. :/

Oh, and the inside of the cabinet has both furring strips and brackets.  The brackets are opposite of the carriage bolt heads exposed on the outside of the cabinet.  Same for the extension base.

Good luck!

TTYL,
Wade

Oh, I almost forgot - the grills are on the opposite side of the cabinet too!  I think there is only one speaker and it's on the access door side.

FYI, you can get a plastic pair of calipers at Big Lots for $2 that are surprisingly accurate. ;)
However I'd say 1/16" is quite good enough in this case.

What's the largest size those calipers can measure?

Off-hand, I'd say somehwhere between 4 and 6 inches. They are dial calipers too.

Not large enough to measure a cabinet, but would probably work well for lots of smaller stuff.  I may have to stop by and check it out! :)

More than a year after my last post on this thread ... and along time since regular posting on byoac.... and I'M BACK!!
Woo fricken HOO

Instead of dribbling on forever about the last 4 years .. as I can do  ::) .. in brief ..
Everythings back to normal ... wife is fine now ... kids are older ... and I'm back with my beloved hobby.  Have re-freshed myself with old and new contacts, prices, availability of parts etc and the general scene.  I started my mates aussie lowboy a few weeks ago ( my first return project) and it's fairly close to being finished.... So once that lowboy 4 year old monkey is off my back... I can start my project list.

And this baby is the first cab off the rack.  I was going to restore my 'Cosmic Guerilla' first.. but after 4 years of not a single build.. my router and all it's cousins are itching to come back out  >:D

I've revised the project a bit.  Now that I'm older and ever so slightly wiser ... no longer will I waste such a beautiful cabinet to mame.  I'll wire her up in her native Konami Classic harness and run the original pcb.  I'll also set-up the sequel , Hyper Sports , in the CT for easy switch over.  I'm quite over mame!  Back to my roots.  Sure mame has it's place in some circumstances... but not in this baby!! :afro:

I'm currently sourcing the main parts .. ie pcb, coin door etc ... with some shipping quotes on the go as I speak.

Also refreshing myself with my sketchup plans and making tweaks where neccessary..

Game On!!

Troops.  A'little help if possible.

Just revising and finalising the plans --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- the build.  I have sourced an original Centuri Coin door (with raised 'Centuri' lettering plate), however it does not have the coin mechs.  I'm ignorant of these doors, due to never seeing one here in OZ, hence curious if these mechs are quite standard and easy to replace, or are they Konami/Centuri specific?  I'm guessing standard, but I don't want to grab it and find out the hard way.

Secondly what type of coin mechs would they be, if standard and available, so that I can source and price them.

Also (and Wade.. if your reading).  All the pics of the T&F i have from the net and Wade, don't show the internals around the coin door and how it interacts with a coin bucket/box.  I also have no idea whether it used a bucket or wooden box. etc

The pdf of a T&F Cocktail manual is ever ellusive.  If anyone has the original manual, a simple scan or snapshot of the specific page related to this area would help alot... if a pic of that area exists in the manual that is.  OR .. a digital snap of the coin box/bucket and it's position inside the cabinet would be a thumbs up.

Cheers in advance ladies. :P

Quick note for now!

The coin mechs themselves are standard.  They are easy to find (for US coins or for tokens) for very little money around here, in fact I still have a box of them I picked up for free years ago.  So no worries about buying a door with no mechs and having to track down "special" mechs.

The coin box was a pretty standard flat square black plastic tray, like what you'd find in an Atari Centipede or Missile Command.  There are a couple of plywood pieces going perpendicular to the coin door face and that attach to an internal wall in the center of the game, and the tray rests down in that, if I remember correctly.  I could get some pics from my friend's machine, but it might be a while before I'm down there again.

Thankyou my friend.  That'll do just fine.  Quite simple.  I have a pic of the internal wall.. so that's fine and I get the jist of the perpendicular panels.  Excellent.  I'm bound to find a pick of a Missile Command or Centipede coin tray/box out there.  Give me an idea of replicating or obtaining something similar.   Cheers.

Secondly.. expect a PM if I get this coin door.   Something about an exchange of $$ for mechs  :afro:

My memory can't be trusted.  After looking at that web page, I remember now that it had a galvanized steel bucket, probably the same as the Centuri one pictured on that web page!

He must be shipping with airmail.  See if he'd do normal surface shipping, shouldn't be too expensive.

Thx dude.  In the end.. I suppose it's a fricken coin box!!  I don't think my old BYOAC tokens are gonna care if it's plastic, wood, original, pretend  ::)

Yeh .. my last shipment from the US in '06 cost me $65US (with $100 insurance) via surface.. that was for a single package of full Bezel (Glass), populated Metal CP, Coin Door and Marquee.  I'll mail him again.

Have fully revised the sketchup model, changing a few internal parts to match the original cab logistics better.  Revised ALL of my digital pics from Wade's machine .. in and out ... as a guide.   One more revision on the cabinet sides and i think it's ready for build time.

The cabinet will look confidentally identical externally... and pretty close internally.  From what I can tell from pics ... things like the main cross beams that the upper part of the control panels are screwed to, were originally pressed up in mild steel, with a fancy extra flange.  I've changed parts like this in certain ways to make construction a bit easier.  EG.. this is now a 3/8" thick piece of wood/mdf, with a 1/16" piece of sheet metal attached,  pressed to suit (resting edge for the cardboard bezel)  You get the gist ;)

I think that's it for the plans now.  Re-referenced dimensions and digital pics, and modified the plans to final stage.  The inner panels around the coin box area will be dealt with at buld stage.  Will need to get the monitor in first and then work around that.  Found one pic of the innards to help for this stage.

The build is probably a month away, whilst I finish the mates cab.  Parts for that should be here this week.

Game On :afro:

From that pic of the insides, it looks like the coin box just rests on the bottom, and has a couple of small blocks on the bottom to keep it from sliding back and forth.  You could probably confirm that by using your drawings.  I'd guesstimate the depth of the coin box to be 5-6".  Of course I can confirm most of this IF I see my buddy's cocktail in the near future.  He is having a minor sprite problem so there is a chance I will be stopping by to work on his PCB.

Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- I get to this stage of the build .. a measuring tape would be handy m8  ;D  Then I'll either get one pressed up and spot welded like the original or I'll just find a square bucket similar to the plastic coin boxs, as listed on that above coin box link.  It's looks like coin box 7, or a modified version, is probably used in this.  Unless I could get cheap shipping on this item... I'l be sourcing or building locally.

Thx again for the offer.

Sadly I don't really lurk around my old forum pretty much anymore  :-\  Regardless .. didn't want to be rude and leave this old thread hanging incomplete.

Well the cabinet is coming along.  I'm now building  2 of them , as I'm building one for a mate and swapping it for a nice cab he has.  The one pictured below is his (he wanted a single slot coin door, as opposed to the double slotter).  There is not a lot of poetic license, so it's quite true to the original.  A few brackets are slightly different and a few other things will be/have been modded from the original (PCB mounting, coin box, cp supports etc), but the concepts are the same.   Just waiting for replica bezels to be done and then I'll test fit the monitor.  I'm hitting up the sheet metal shop monday to sort out the control panels.

They'll then be wired up to Konami classic standard with the original pcbs.  I'll later track down a 'Hyper Sports' board and run both in the my cab.

Hope the forum is still doing well. Cheers

Nice, that looks unreal!  Extremely true to the original.  More so than practically anything I've seen on here before!

Thats a big call my friend .. but I'll take the compliment anyway  8) .  The major difference is the control panel lockdown supports and the wingnut'd brackets holding in the monitor mount panel.  Conceptually the same, but visually different.  Was more practical.

About time I got this project going huh!?? :dizzy:

I'm not sure if the inner metal brackets on my game are original, because something was imperfect about their installation that made me think they were added later.  I don't know how I could tell for sure though, short of finding another one to compare to.  :dunno

BTW, clarification on this... you may have understood anyway...

I meant the 4 inner metal bracks up under the control panel area.  Those are the only ones that seemed like they might have not been original.  They aren't visible anyway so it's no big deal.  All the other bolts and brackets on the cabinet were original.

Well .. as aforementioned above (over 120 days ago  ::) ) although I don't trundle around my old BYOAC haunt anymore ( frequent my home forum 'Aussie Arcade' & COSP)  .. as this project idea was originally spawned nearly 6 years ago on here.. I'd thought I'd grant some BYOAC respect and pretty much put it to bed  8)
Hence ... the 1st of the 2 scratch-built T&F cocktails has finally finished construction as of 2day.  In fact .. it was delivered to my mate 2day.  As he is a local home based repair techie & collector of Arcades and Pinnies.. he wanted to wire her up himself.  So the cabinet arrived @ his shed finished, but empty.  he's throwing in the monitor/chassis, full harness wiring/power set-up and speakers.  He'll be running a Dual jamma switcher to run Track & Field & Hyper Sports boards.
My cabinet will be next ... with most of the panels already router template cut off this one .. plus I have all the processes down pat.  I too will also run both boards.
A big thanks to my boy 'Wade'!!!  .. as without him ... this never would have happened.
Cheers all & Game On!!  :afro:

Farewell ..

Done ...

Clearer final shot --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- she left my place.  No T-molding

Wow, that's truly impressive!!  Looks like a mint condition original!  You did a great job matching up the locations of even the smallest details.  Really inspirational.

I really miss mine, it was the best party game and appealed to all ages.  Maybe I'll get another one some day.  I do get to play it sometimes though.  Played it a month or so ago at my buddy's place, even set a record on the long jump! (And we never cleared the audits because there are still records on it that were set at my house by other guests!)

Glad to see one of them wrapped up.  Now to see your keeper get completed!

That turned out beautiful.  I'm inching along on mine.  Hopefully I can get something done this weekend.  I'm going to try and make my control panels out of wood instead of metal.
