Automatic wire strippers
« on: August 29, 2004, 04:30:16 pm »
Anyone using one of those automatic wire strippers that you can get at Radio Shack and the like?  The work OK?  Do what they're supposed to?  Worth the $15 or so?

If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

Some are decidedly better than others.  I've got a pair that I've had for years.  Words of advice: don't lube them with WD-40.  Gummed it up for years afterwards, before I found out about 3-in-1 oil.

I tend to use manual strippers most often and save the automatic type for rush jobs/non critical applications. Though the automatic strippers are faster and more efficient, I can do better by hand. Concidering where my wiring harnesses end up, it's worth the extra effort.

I personally think a very good pair of manuals are MUCH better then cheap automatic ones.  And a very good pair are only about 10 bucks (I think I got mine for 8 on sale from 15).  And their great.
