Ultimarc I-PAC 4
« on: August 27, 2004, 10:55:39 am »
I was just wondering if anyone's had any experience with the Ultimarc I-PAC 4 joystick and keyboard interface? My arcade will support 4 joysticks and have 6 buttons per player and this I-PAC 4 sounds like it should do exactly what I need it to. Is this all I should need or can anyone recommend anything different?

Thanks,
Dave

I've never heard of anything but praise for it.

You don't have to worry about Andy.  Hes GREAT!

I don't own one (bough a mk64 before the ipac4).. But I bought a optipac... and I blew it up (wired the ground to +5 and other way around...)  He sent me out a free chip and resisters to fix it...

I'm planning on using the ipac4 for my system.  I've done some serious research on it and can't find anything else that users seem to be happier with.

I have an I-PAC 4 in my cab and I can't find anything wrong with it. It's extremely easy to program and Ultimarc is a great company to work with.

You con't go wrong with the I-PAC 4

The IPAC 4 will handle 8 buttons per player.  But you only need 6/7 for player 1 & 2 and 4 buttons for player 3 & 4.   You don't need 6 buttons for player 3 & 4.

IPAC/4 is great.

If you'd done a forum search you'd have found that there's really nothing bad to say about Andy, Ultimarc, or the I-Pac 4.  It's the most full-featured, easy to use, programmable and adaptable of the keyboard encoders.  While I've never had a single problem with any Ultimarc stuff, those who've experienced defects or problems have all been pleased with Andy's help in resolving the issues.
If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

Another satisfied customer here.  Nary a problem, except for my own stupid wiring mistakes (oh, player two goes THERE...).   ;D
One word of warning when building a Mame cabinet, hook up the controls LAST!!!  If you don't, it will probably take you 3 - 6 additional months to finish the cabinet.  -JustMichael

I got a ipac4 and my only problem was wanting entirely tooooooo many buttons to go through 1 poor encoder.

I use my mame cab for a few console games (since it's already 4 player) including Poy-poy for PSX, Super Smash brothers for n64, and finally, games like Secret of Mana on SNES (Gotta love 3 player RPG action!).

Since I already knew I was going to need 6 buttons for the few SNES games I have (L, R, X,Y,B,A, plus Sel and Start), I went with a whopping 8 buttons per....

Needless to say, if you use up all 8 buttons, it doesn't give you much room for other things... but then again, that's why you have the shift button!

Other than my stupid flub (which was my own stupid fault, not Ultimarc/Andy's), the ipac4 is an awesomely cool unit!
