Does such a device exist????
« on: August 25, 2004, 03:32:37 pm »
TX and RX device that will allow me to use a standard PS/2 KB and Mouse (and a KE72) wirelessly?

This is what I have in mind for one of my winter projects....

Build a pedestal 4 player controller that will send signal to PC that is attached to my Toshiba big screen. and the only cable running into/out of the pedestal is the power for the sending device that the ke72 is plugged into.

You mean that you want to be able to plug a standard mouse/keyboard into a wireless transmitter? I have never heard of such a thing, but that does not mean it does not exist. I think the easiest thing though would be to hack a wireless keyboard and mouse. You wouldn't be able to use your encoder, but IMHO hacks are just as good.

I think the reason why he is asking is so that he can use an IPAQ wirelessly also using the same system. The only problem with this is that the Ipaq would need to get its power from somewhere else.

So I figured. But, as far as I know, such a device does not exist. So I think the better solution would be to hack a wireless keyboard and mouse. The great thing about that they are made to run on batteries. You would not need to have a power cord going into the CP.

I'd think it'd be easier to just have a long S-video cable running from your pedestal to the tv. Or maybe a wireless video transmitter, I know I've seen those before...

As I recall, they aren't cheap. Plus that would mean having the computer inside the pedestal somewhere.

The only way I can think of is if by some chance you can find a keyboard and mouse that has the transmitter as a completely different circuit. Then all you would need to do is figure out what cables going to the encoder means what pin on a connector and just wire a connector accordingly. But the odds of it just being a standard encoder going into a transmitter is very slim.

I haven't either... hence the question. I would think that there would have to be some type of RF device that is out there that fits the bill... Thought about the WKB hack... that is LAST resort... .

I think the reason why he is asking is so that he can use an IPAQ wirelessly also using the same system. The only problem with this is that the Ipaq would need to get its power from somewhere else.

Correct... either an Ipac or KE72 or <insert other encoder here>

I'd think it'd be easier to just have a long S-video cable running from your pedestal to the tv. Or maybe a wireless video transmitter, I know I've seen those before...

Did the long cable before...and have tried the W Vid trans (wasn't real impressed with the quality.  I want the PC at the end of the room with the TV.

I highly doubt that there is such a thing. The entire point of the wireless keyboards is that you have no cord going from the keyboard. There would be no point in someone creating a wireless transmitter if you still had to plug a wired keyboard into it. This is a rather unique problem, don't expect to use consumer products. :)

BTW, keyboard hacks aren't that hard. Plus you get way more inputs than most encoders. The only problem is if you have already wired all your buttons, but that is still not that hard.

I looked for something like this about 1 1/2 years ago.  I couldn't find anything. Although you could probably make your own if you knew what you were doing.

I alway felt wireless mice weren't good for gaming since the RF transmission seems to introduce a delay. Dunno if it was caused by the specific mice I used (logitech) or that this is inherent to the technology.
