title says it all really. I'm getting ready to start my own (first) cab soon an dim sorting out the details. The control panel... I'm trying to not get plexi put on top because I dont like the shiny look of it, doesnt seem as authentic to me, so i want to just have the printed overlay

but do they stick to wood or MDF ones? with some kind of preparation maybe? or does it have to be metal CP's if youre not covering with plexi

thanks :)

  • I dare anything! I am Skeletor!
YOu can take a look at my site with a wood CP with vinyl adhesive overlay. IT works/looks great.

What I would suggest doing is the following;

Combine staples with the adhesive to make a strong, tight bond.

  • Saint and Woogie let me back in!
I see no reason why they wouldn't.  I know people have used it on their CPs so there has to be a way.  I'd say just make sure your cp is smooth and cleaned of any dust.  The vinyl (adhesive backed or spray adhesive) would stick with no problems.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

  • Life is time spent fighting entropy.
You could always attach plexi to wood and place the overlay on plexi.  This allows you to float the dust washers above the wood and underneath the plexi as illustrated on Oscar's site.

I did this method and it came out great.

To Mahuti:

hey thanks, I think that must be about the only build up site i havent seen yet.... I thought i'd seen them all!

that was helpful. Can i ask how you attached the control panels?

Also.. did you just stick the printed overlays directly onto the wood? no preparation first... and are they holding on with no bubbles, etc?

thanks!  ;D

EDIT:

hmm, plexi on top of wood, THEN the overlay... that's an interesting one! I guess you could use any form of strong adhesive for the plexi to the wood/MDF.... I like that idea.

keep 'em coming guys! (you're all SO helpful)  :D
