Button lighting...

I have seen pictures( I forget where) of standard looking player start buttons(with the little men on em) being lit up.  Do you have to modify the button or will LEDs shine through them?

The only modifications i did to my buttons was to drill a hole in the bottom of the base of the button (where the spring sits (above the micro switch), so that my led could sit in there and shine upwards.... as for the bottom of the botton it shines nicely without any mods
