RAN INTO A HUGE PROBLEM!
« on: August 22, 2004, 08:39:55 pm »
 :( :( :( :( :(  :(

I bought a beautiful over under coin door that looks great, and it just so happens its about 1/4 inches shorter than the door its going on! :( What am i going to do? i cant rebuilt the whole thing, and im afraid the mdf will just crack in half with only a tiny peice of wood holding it together (the coin door will basically cut the wood in half) what am i going to do, i really like the over under door better than a normal coin door.

 :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Sell it get a new one that fits. Not much advice I know but sounds like your only option.

i dont know, the one i have looks great, i restored it to new condition, made new coin button stickers for it, and  i wanted an overunder door, not a normal one, i really dont want "selling this one" to be an option.

Looks like you are going to simply have to get/use another door.

How about placing a sheet of metal behind the door with screws or bolts and then cutting out the opening for the coin door. That sould give the door the support it needs.

maybe some metal bracing or an interior frame to strengthen the front wood piece.

would the coindoor look funny installed with such a small amount of clearance at the top and bottom?

Dont underestimate the power of wood glue. If you are a quarter inch to big ,cut a piece of MDF and nail and glue it to take up the space, then fill the line let over with putty or bondo.Wood glue is AMAZINGLY STRONG. If you glue 2 pieces of wood together and let it dry, then try to sepperate it.... you will destroy the wood before it separates at the joint the glue was applied to. Again, wood glue is very strong. Why is your control panel starting 2 feet from the floor? Midget cab?

its a ultimate arcade 2 cab, it goes up from the floor, then like goes out, and up again, then the control panel sits on top of that.

Oh, why do people continue to build those, it looks very little like any actual machine ever made.

You could put the door on the side.

Here's a wacky plan...

Take the over/under to a metal shop and have them section about an inch out of the "under" half.  That door is only to get the coin tub out, so as long as you similarly modify your coin tub, it shouldn't matter how big it is.

If you wanted to, you really could have the entire "under" part removed, and have a small coin door, and access the tub like you would with a midway or pinball coindoor.

I built the ultimate arcade II as well and I put in an over under coin door.  Like you I though aww crap it's longer than the space provided...  but it's not that bad the outer frame of the coin door goes right from the very bottom of the cabinet and I had to cut some of the angled upper portion out to 'tuck' it under but it fits and it's so nice that the coin bucket slides right in on the bottom and fits like it should.  I'll take some pics and post em. It looks real good IMHO.

True it doesn't look like a 'real' arcade cabinet, but it is stylish and if we were building real arcade cabinets then what the heck are they doing running 5000 Games with keyboards and computers in them running windblows?

My suggestion would be to sell it.  Yes, you put a lot of work into it, but it won't fit.  Would you wear a pair of pants that you made if they were two inches too small?

Post some pictures, I'm sure if it's as nice as you say you can get some good money for it.

Then, get a Williams style door.  That *will* fit.  I'm working on some now, but at the rate I'm working on it, it'll be done in 2006 sometime.   ;D

Sell it! Cuz if your cab will end up looking like MikMan's, it will look like crap. (No offense Mikman, but i really don't like the end result with that super tall coin door).

I honestly dont care what any of you think of me or my posts, basically im here to get information so i can finish my cabinet. I dont know any of you, ive never seen any of you, so i dont care. So when Gozur or whatever ur name is puts smart comments in all my threads and thinks hes sharp saying things to a 15 year old, so be it. All i am looking for is information so i can finish. Hey Mikman, do you have a page or pictures of your whole cab, it looks real good. Ill probably do what you did to the coindoor, just squeeze it in, plus my cab is about a half inch to an inch off the ground cuz i have small wheels on the bottoms, so ill have alittle more to work with. All of you older guys that think my cab is gonna look like crap when its done, wait and see.......

I apologize to anyone who think i am being rude here, i just dont like when Gozur sais things about my posts.

I don't think you are being rude, but I think that as a forum grows it's users, more and more rude people start to come out of the woodworks.  Not sure why people feel the need to throw no helpful, rude comments on this type of forum but whatever, doesn't bother me.  Just skip past them and look for the helpful stuff.  ;)

Thats really what i hate about this forum, instead of people helping out, they just leave rude comments, or post threads about newbies and whatnot, if you arent going to help, just dont say anything. If someone wants to know what an ipac is for example, yeah, some of you may think thats a dumb question, but to someone who doesnt know, its a good question. So either answer or dont say anything, whats the point of the useless comments? Especially when i see i have a reply and get excited thinking someone has an answer and then i see the comments, really comeon now, whats the point? Anyways, I would like to see a pic of ur cab mikman, i sent u a pm, because i may have to do what you did on ur cab.

but here is a picture of the cabinet with my testing control panel in place... I am going to make some changes to it as it wasn't wat I had hoped for and I am surely glad I didn't cut my lexan and main cp with this layout :-)

Not that I need to defend my replies to you as they have all started out with legitimate answers to your questions, there is an overall theme to your questions.

They are almost always posted to the wrong forum, they start out asking one question and end with you meaning to ask an entirely different question. I enjoy helping people, but some make that task more difficult.  On a number of posts, the answer has been only a google away.

What's that old proverb..... Give the man a fish and he eats for a day, teach them to fish... well you get it. Take a good hard look at your posts, and you'll likely get to see it from a different point of view. I believe this is the only post that I have not offered the correct answer to your initial question.

I'm starting to ramble and will stop with this said:

You ask for opinion, you will get opinion. You may not always like what the answer / opinion is.

As far as I could remember,I drew the lines first, cut the hole for the coin door THEN put the bottom piece together. Then again I probely got away because I didnt use the UA2 plan(I am broke so I had to look at the pictures and build).I am kinda surprised at how you and MiKman made the exact same mistake.Interesting coinsidence... :-\

Here is mine with over under coin door.

SNAAKE, its because the plans for that peice only measure 21 inches i believe, and the coindoor is about 20 and a half, so basically anyone else that makes a UA2 and doesnt look ahead of time will have the exact same problem as me and mikman.

wow wacky that first picture I did not have, I have no idea where that came from. weird andyhow here is how I handled the over/under coindoor on my UAII cabinet.
Hehe, that's actually a picture I uploaded, it's a picture of how my coindoor looks with LED's.  You probably just tried uploading a picture with the same name.

you should measure, draw on the wood, measure, double-check, measure, redraw if needed. measure and get someone else to measure.

i dont know how many times ive threw a tantrum through bad planning and not double checking measurements....... be sure, double sure, triple sure then CUT wood.

incidently, i also bought an over-under coindoor - but the bottom part is only 1/2 sized - it really does look the dogs bx: http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40051400.htm

just my 2p worth
oh dear - not rain again......Scottish weather is crap, oh well - at least Mame can keep me company.
