Help with UAII Montior Bezel and Plexi
« on: August 21, 2004, 04:08:10 pm »
In the UAII instructions you have 4 thin pieces that surround the inside of the monitor area whick the plext/bezel mount to. In instructions the screw through the plext, which I am not to excited about as I have done that in the past, and I know there is about 50/50 chance that I will crack or break it in the drilling process. I was looking at some of the photos on ther site of other UAII that have been built and dont really see the screws there so I am guessing there may be another way. Does any one have any suggestions.

yeah ... its called gravity   ;)

Just lay your plexiglass, lexan, or glass against your monitor bezel and leave it at that ... it doesn't need screws to hold it in place.

As for drilling plexiglass ... just run your drill bit in reverse and melt your way through ... takes a little longer that way but it won't crack on you either .... or use a forsner or plexiglass bit (you can also grind a regular ol' drill bit to keep it from grabbing the plexiglass and cracking it ... that will work too)  :)

Howdy,

In the UA2 plans the monitor is not held in well, take a look at my tutorial here that covers monitor mounting studs and drilling plexi.

Dig it?

right now my plexi just sits in against the bezel which is stuck onto my TV with velcro.  and the plexi is a tight squeeze so it's not going anywhere. And I don't plan on changing it.  screws on the front would look like crap IMHO. and if I were to permanently attache more ledgers around the edges on the front it might look nice but how would I get the tv out if I needed to do repairs?  UAII the plans call for the tv to be fitted through the front...  The pictures don't do it justice but I just got the digital camera so I don't have it all figured out yet :D

I was also thinking of using some kind of quadrant beading to hold the plexi/glass in place.  But as other's have said, I may as well simply rest the glass against the bezel...it's not as if it's going anywhere.  Can other's recommend this or is it best to 'fix' it in place?

My plexi rests against the bezel, but runs up behind the top board where the speakers are on the UAII cab. It doesn't move at all and takes a little bit of work to get it so it can be removed. I don;t think I would build it any other way.
