Seen these before? Combined 2-way & spinner

Has anyone seen/used these before and can comment on them?

I think they'd have limited use, but if you wanted to make a really simple cab CP they might work.

Technically you could use it for Discs of Tron, just mount it where the 2-way action is up/down instead.

I spoke with the seller in that auction and he is getting some more of them.

He is willing to ship to the US as well.

Yep, I got a brand new one from a different seller a while back. Its was designed specifically for "Arkanoid Returns" which I  believe was never released in the U.S so thats probably why most people around here haven't seen much of these. I'm still trying to decide whether to add it to one of my cabs or save the real estate for a Major Havok roller controller... that is if I ever find one. ::)

I'm in Oz, so I'll try to snare one from him soon and then see about building a wireless spinner from the leftover wireless mouse I have.

It is a very heavy well made unit however, one should probably use this in addition to a regular weighted Tempest/Oscar style spinner and not instead of. I say this because it feels  *nothing* like a regular spinner. It is a paddle and has a very heavy feel to it when turning it. It is heavily bogged down because of several optimizing gears. Probably even more so then the original Arkanoid paddles. Don't get me wrong as it *is* a very clever and cool little two in one controller but if someones thinking that they can save room by using this to replace their standard spinner and 2-way joystick then they might be not be too thrilled with it. IMO its a great little paddle when used in addition to a regular spinner plus it has the added novelty of a horizontal 2-way "joystick"

How much did he charge? (unit cost/postage cost)

$50 for spinner, postage nothing as his company Zax Amusements sends to JM Amusements in Adelaide daily, we just have to pick it up there. If we wanted it posted home it would of been $16.50.

Zax Amusements web site is: http://www.zax.com.au/amusementmachines.html

I thought for $50 what have I got to lose?

Looking at it, I think it will be good for Arkanoid and Discs of Tron with the Up/Down feature, I doubt whether it would be any good for Tempest though.

I certainly don't intend using it as a 2 way joystick.

I don't understand what the 2-way movement would be for? Was it so you could move your paddle up and down??

These were probably used for one specific game, since edot is the only vid like that, and those aren't edot, I would say that that spinner is for some sort of redemption type game.

RayB, KLOV says that its left-right but if that was the case then what purpose would the pattle/spinner part of the controller serve ? KLOV has been known to be wrong quite often so you can't trust their info 100%. I've never played the actual machine as it was released in Japan only. Since I do have the controller I was going to try experimenting with it using the MAME version of Arkanoid Returns but realized that I had never downloaded the rom for it and now no matter how much I search Google I can't find a version of the rom that isn't corrupt.  ::)  Anyways, some of the other members should be receiving their controllers soon so maybe they could test it in MAME if they have the rom. If anyone does this please post the results. Meanwhile I'm gonna continue to search for a working rom.
