Setting up gas pedal to run in mame with dual strike hack
« on: August 16, 2004, 06:54:39 pm »
???I have hooked up a sprint gas pedal to a dual strike hack to run in my mame cabinet.  Where do I change settings to use the gas pedal within mame?  I tried changing joystick to a "1" in mame.ini but that didn't work.  I did load the dual strike software.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

make sure you do this first...

go into the dual strike software and switch it from FX mode to joystick mode.

then add -joystick to your mame command line or make sure joystick is checked in the controls option if your using mame32. then when you go into a game, tab into setup and find the gas (usually button 1) press enter then step on your gas pedal. it should read the joystick axis.

afterwards if you have problems getting full top speed or a weird dead spot in the middle go back into the dual strike software and adjust the deadzone and range of motion settings.

mameFAQ #h03

Remap "P1 Pedal 1 Analog" to your pedal.

 ???
Okay, I have my dual strike hack set to joystick and joystick set in my mame.ini and have changed my game settings to use the gas pedal.  My problem now is the gas doesn't let up when I take my foot off the gas pedal.  When I start a game such as pole position my car is initially stopped until I press the gas pedal.  However, if I take my foot off the gas pedal, I don't slow down or stop.  Any ideas what  to check?  I am using a pole position gas pedal with a hacked dual strike using the left/right pot.  Could the pontiometer on the pedal be bad?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I'm new here and doing a lot of reading to gain knowledge on the whole hobby.  This is just a small request for those like me.  When people ask a question but figure it out themselves could they tell us what they did to fix it.  This way if someone else runs into the same problems they will have an idea on how to fix it without having to figure it out all for themselves.

My dual strike hack was incorrectly connected to my pole position gas pedal.  Two wires were reversed.  Once I switched them everything worked correctly.

Very good request.  I wish that sometimes also.  Some threads seem to die "on the vine" after the original poster figures out whatever it was they had asked about.  The search engine has been invaluable for me in the past and still is today.
