If you do help me out.

No matter what I do I cannot get the controls setup up properly for a 4P cab.  Essentially both sets want to be players 1 and 2.

Perhaps I am not programming these right or something, but who knows.

Andy has been helping through email but as you know the time difference between the US and him is making this a difficult process and I am under the gun here (have to be done bu this w/e).  So I am hoping someone here can help otherwise I have to get an IPAC4 and Optipac in a hurry.

Thanks

Greg

Hmm... thats an interesting one.  Two ipacs on one PC.  Theoretically it should be okay.  The computer sees them as keyboards, and I don't 'think' PC's mind if you have two keyboards hooked up at the same time.  I think that the IPAC configuration software would have some trouble because it wouldn't know which IPAC to update...  You should have gone with an IPAC4 I think.

Well following Andy's instructions you are supposed to be able to program each one separately (only one hooked up at a time) and then daisy chain them together.

Problem is I can get them setup separately but both minis think they are players 1 and 2 only and thus have the keycodes for those players only regardless of what I do.  I know it has to be something I am doing wrong in the setup, there is no doubt in my mind on that.  I just cannot figure out what it is.

As far as using 2 minis --- well you go with what you have on hand when you are under the gun to complete a project.  This cabinet needs to be delivered to the person this w/e in a 100% working state and this is basically the last step I need to do (except for the monitor hook up) and there were delays with the cabinet maker which left me with basically this week only to get the job done.  I'm not complaining but I was left with no time to order an IPAC4 and an Optipac.  Oh well.

Hopefully I can get this sorted out.

connect one to the pc, set it to alt, then program the keycodes for player 3 and 4.  as long as it stays in alt and retains these settings, all you need to do then is plug it into the other minipac that has the default settings and you should be all set..

So you program minipac A, then unplug it, then plugin minipac B, program it, then you plugin minipac A (so now you have both programmed and plugged in) and magically, one of the minipac's is now programmed differently?

i believe you only needto program 1 minipac and keep it in the alt config.  it should retain the programming in the eeprom when you unplug it.  then you plug the programmed minipac into the passthrough of the other minipac, which is set to default settings.  this should allow you to have a primary minipac with default settings for player 1 and 2, and the minipac on the passthrough should retain the programmed keycodes for player 3 and 4.
now, this is completely theoretical and untested by me.  i am pretty sure i read this before somewhere and it should work this way.  since the minipac is seen as a normal keyboard by the pc, the second minipac should be seen as a normal keyboard by the primary minipac.

I have a similar setup using a J-PAC and Mini-PAC.  I have the J-PAC using the default MAME setting for players 1&2 and the Mini-PAC in ALT programmed for players 3&4.  The software for programming it however is really setup for players 1&2 so what you need to do is write down all the keycodes for players 3&4 and enter them manually.  As I didn't wire mine up according to the instructions my config file won't be of any use to you, otherwise I'd just send it to you.
