Marquee Lighting ???
« on: August 11, 2004, 04:47:36 pm »
I am going to need to replace the fluorescent light behind the marquee in my MAME machine.  Will any fluorescent light from Home Depot work??  My concern is the ballast will cause interference with the monitor, speakers, etc.  I know some lights use a magnetic ballast and other use and electronic ballast....which is better??

Thanks,
SW

One thing you must consider is space.  Obviously the 4' shop flourescents just aren't going to fit...
I used a couple 18" undercabinet flourescents from Home Depot ($7 each) and they have worked just fine.  The one behind the marquee I had to screw right through the plastic side to get it mounted the way I wanted.

I bought the same thing, one undercabinet 18" light from walmart for $6.76 with light. Works fine in both of my cabs

How did you guys wire these things?  My cabinet has a fluorescent fixture, but I don't know how to hook it up.

Is it better to get a light with a cover, or will an open light work fine.

I used a light with a cover (which helps to diffuse the light a little better), but a standard open one would probably work okay.

I just ordered a marquee from http://www.emdkay.net/ and am wondering if I should get a black light or a regular fluorescent.  Thoughts?
