Star Wars cockpit update.

Just a quick update on the cockpit I have been sitting on forever.

I have managed to fix the AR II board and get the boardset working. The monitor is still out.

Paige!

I see you know a bit about AR-II boards, ..... can you help me out a bit with some tech advice?

I have a Missile Command cocktail, and at the game PCB, the either the +12v or -12v (I forget which) is reading 20v (+ or -).

So I checked the volts on the AR-II and same thing there, either the +12v or -12v is reading close to 20v. Also, the 10.3 is reading 11.6, and most peculiar is that the 36vAC is reading only 17.

Any ideas what's going on here? I communicated a bit with Alex Yeckley and he suggested replacing the Big Blue capacitor as a first step.

ttyl,
Ray B.

Actually the FIRST step would be making sure R29 isn't blown up, it usually is.  I just had an 04 revision AR II board that looked perfect, until you really looked hard at r29, which managed to blow up without looking obvious.

Also, doesn't Alex sell tested/working ARII boards?

Bob Roberts sells an AR II repair kit. There are also some repair guides on the net.

I just sort of hacked mine. Both of the ones I own had r29 blown up. One was an 04, and I don't own any games that use that version, so I just unsoldered a likely looking resistor off that one and used it to replace R29 on my 02 board. That apparently fixed it.

Thanks.
yeah Alex does sell and repair them. I just am trying to find the source of the problem first. It would make no sense in repairing the AR-II only to have the power supply blow the fixed board.
