SuperAuctions comes to Dallas again...
« on: August 05, 2004, 02:15:45 am »
SuperAuctions is back in Dallas August 14th.  Last time around I picked up a pretty sweet Super Neo 29 that I MAMED, along with an X-Men vs StreetFighter that I am customizing.

Anyone on the forum going?  and if so, are you seelling or buying?

I have missed the last 2. I'm going to try to make it to this one if I can get someone to go with me. I'm looking for an empty/cheap cabinet to convert to MAMEism for my brother.
Thanks,

I'll be there.

xcalibur,
You don't need someone to go with.  We will be there :).
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

This will be my first auction in a while. I'm back on the scene, baby! I'm going to be looking for beaters for parts. I'm busy restoring 10 or so classics, and I need components up the wazoo. I'm also looking for 25" machines (working or otherwise).

I doubt I'll have any of my own machines ready in time to take them to the auction, though. Besides, I think classics probably sell better right before Christmas. I could take my Off-Road in the condition it's in, but I'd rather fix the sideart first.

Oh by the way... this time I'm EMPLOYED! So I'll be able to actually buy stuff this time!!!

By the way, xcalibur, I may have a cabinet for you if you're looking for an empty one. I can't make any promises yet, though, cuz it's only half mine. It's a 25"er, though (thus why I want to find 25" monitors at the auction).

Looks like I won't have my CapCom finished by then...it's just too freaking hot to mess with the paint job.  I'm thinking about taking one or two of my slot machines out there though.  My wife limits me on how many machine I can keep around the house (new ones in mean old ones out).  Otherwise I'd have an arcade and a casino taking over the house.

I'll probably just be looking for an empty cab with a monitor.  I thinking about MAMEing one for my nephew.  Unless something just looks too good to pass up.

Any details on the location and times?

Do they have a website with what will be there?

Unfortunately no. The games are recieved the day before the auction so there is no preview online.  There is however a 2 hour preview time before the auction begins when you can peruse the games. Someone can correct me but I believe the last auction started at noon.

The time I went, preview was at 8:00am and the auction started at 10:00am.  But they started with the slot machines.

The REAL auction does start about noon. They always start with the slot machines (and always late), it will be about noon before they finish up on those and the high dollar (overpriced) "first row" classic games.

In Dallas they dont auction the slot machines thank god! They are sold at fixed prices next to the auction so the auction starts with the games. Although some pinhead brought a million gumball machines last time and it took forever to get thru them all.

The auction does start at 10 am.  Paigeoliver is correct that they usually start with the PacMan/ Mrs Pacs, etc.  They take forever to get to the 25" and up section...usually AFTER the damn pinballs.

Actually, they do auction slots at this one.  Last time they just had a huge truckload of Pacislos for sale.  No real slots at all.  The one last August had a lot of slots...I bought some parts for mine.  I expect to see more this time around.  I have two IGTs I'm bringing out.

They used to have tons of slots auctioned at the beginning, but now they have moved them to the other side of the warehouse at fixed prices (2 auctions ago).  But there are still a few slots (pachislo) in the actual auction but not at the beginning.  You used to be able to grab'em for $60 after the newbies were done bidding up the first 10 or so  :P.

I just heard the first ad for the auction today.  Damn! They are goin gto have another Pachislo truckload sale.  I ended up not taking my slots out there...not much point.  Maybe next time around  :-\

I am happy that I won a pretty good itme on eBay though!  I got another CapCom cab to match my current one.  This one houses a SSF II: TNC.  It's currently not working, but I can fix that.  Cab looks good....especially for $56!  I'll pick it up on Sunday.

Wow, these guys were extremely unorganized this time, they opened the doors up 30 minutes late and didn't start auctioning off stuff until 10:45 (10 was the scheduled start time).  They did have a ton of stuff there though, 3 rows of pinballs when they usually only have 2.  Two of 'em were Star Wars and they had a Star Trek NG as well, very geeky, very cool.

If no one here chimes up about the cap kit then check the klov.com board as I know there are some experienced Dallas guys there.

I thought I had a lead on a fellow that I've known for quite some time does all types of board, printer, and monitor repair based on Arlington but he indicated he doesn't have the equipment to test his work any longer for that type of monitor so quit doing those types of repair.

Unless you are looking for a private individual one thought that comes to mind might be to find a "mom and pop" TV repair shop.

I realize not everyone here is a true do-it-yourselfer, but...

Though I haven't done it (yet), I've read up on it and it doesn't look THAT hard. The scary part is removing the chassis, but there are good instructions online. Then it only depends on your skills with a soldering iron. Ever used one before?

I've done it on older monitors and it's really not that hard.  If you can solder and not screw up the other stuff on the board (ie cross traces with solder, etc), that's pretty much it.  The first time I had to get the anode off it was a bit scary, not because I wasn't careful, just because my mind can think of a lot of bad things that can happen.  Then again the first time I discharged a monitor it was the same feeling.  After the first one?  No problem.

It's really getting the monitor ready for the cap kit that's the scary part, not the cap kit itself.

Thanks guys!!   I may just give it a shot even though its been over 15 years since I soldered anything.  If it gets scary for me I may just consier the mom and pop shop.

okay, call me a wimp now.  i opened the back of this thing looked at and said to myself "who am I fooling!"  and ended up calling a local tv repair guy who fixed it in about 30 minutes for a hefty fee.  I didnt mind since a new 27" Monitor is over $800 dollars.

How much was this "hefty fee"? I have a couple of 25" monitors that could use repair.

About $200 bucks and part of that is because he came to the house.  The Monitor is already in the cab and did not want to hassle taking the monitor out going down a flight of stairs and so on.   Well want are you gonna do if cant do it yourself,  I got his number if u need it

I'm afraid he'll charge $200 and then not be able to fix it.

naw, he will not charge you if he can not fix it, he stated that up front.  Seem like he knows what he is doing.  He is an ol pinball collector so he has alot of experiance in this area as far as i could tell.
