New England BYOAC Meetup 2: The Second Coming
« on: August 03, 2004, 11:54:06 am »
The date I originally suggested for the second meet-up (August 14th) is approaching fast!
It turns out I can't make it that day anymore, I'm not sure how flexible everyones schedules are so here's a little poll to see how many could make it on either date.

For anyone that didn't make it the first time, a bunch of us got together at FunSpot during the annual classic gaming tournament, we all had a great time, went to Ed's holiday home for a BBQ, talked a lot of crap and some of us got a little drunk in one of the local bars (can't remember who that was ;))

I don't know if Ed is up for another barbeque as his place, if not I'm sure we can figure out something else to do after FunSpot.

Here's the thread from the first meetup.

It's probably too short notice for me since I'd have to find a place to stay for the night... wife/kids would want to come too.

I stayed at The Naswa Resort (which I'm told is world famous) last time with my fiancee - it's close to everything and was very nice. I'll probably stay there again if I can make it. Maybe you should give them a call?

About $170 for a base level room... probably too much, considering that I'd be spending all my time away from the resort.

Ok. I'm goinmg on vacation right around that time, and I would need to check with the wife on this (good chance there's a big no coming) But I live about 20 minutes from funspot, and wouldimagine it would be fine to throw some food on the barbecue and pass some drinks around for a few hours at my house.

This depends on when my vacation is planned, and how many people, stuff like that, but it's a thought at any rate.

I checked with Jen and she thinks she can whip up some of that pasta salad in time for the 21st!
For a while today I thought I might have had a wedding on the 21st, but it looks like I'm in the clear (whewww....)

I'm not even sure if I can GO, looks like the 21st is going to be a better bet. I still need to check when my vacation is, lol.

21st sounds good to me.  I voted neutral though...

Only question now is who's going to bring a cab this time?  :D
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

I guess I'll have to go to defend my 2X Daytona title :)

I can probably bring my bartop, but I wouldn't consider it portable and it's only 1 player.

Well cool now were talking some old friends and some new .

Peale and stylenwolf will be great to meet you both.

Peale we'll probably do the same thin we did last time I guess meet a funspot play for a while and go back to my shack and some grub  and try to hit crashwg in the head by turning on the ceiling fan.

The tests are now up in front of funspot ,so I say we meet under the tent to avoid sunburn waiting for each other...yea like the host showing up to funspot 20 minutes late...LOL.

Also I say we up the stakes so to speak... and race the go carts

Now we just have to pick a time .

Later

Ok so were just under 10 days away .

I just got off the phone with paypal and there is no way you guys can paypal me the following items

Pasta or potatoe salad
burgers
hot dogs
chips
Beer/ alcohol

Ok ...I'm just kidding .

Now in all seriousness we need a count of people so if someone wants to donate something to the cause they will know how much to bring . If you don't want to bring anything from home (because of the  long ride)you can stop at the local grocery store (1 mile away from my place) and pick up what ever you want there .

If you have a particular item you would like to bring /buy please speak up ..don't be shy.

List so far ?:
Ed  + 2...... Dawn (wife )and Owen (son 6)
Paul (Joy Monkey) + 2  .... Jen (wife yet ?) and Friend
Dave (mr.Curmudgeon) +1 ?.... Rae
Jason (recycled-past) + 1 ? ..... Fiancee (sorry forgot her name)?
Will (craswg)+ 2 .....  Lee-Ann (girlfriend) Jayleigh (daughter 1 yr?)
Peale + 3? (wife 2 kids?)

BTW..... I posted the names so you guys can study the names and  try to rememberand use them while at funspot..., because  Dave said it best..... "I don't want people to look at me funny when I call to joymonkey in a crowed arcade."

I am going to try to get a hold of Marc (Teknique) and steve (screaming)....as you guys may know Marc has a place across the lake from me so I am sure he'll probably be able to make it.

I will also be trying to get some more people to come as well.

Oh ya one more thing...... WHO WAS DRIVING THAT F!@#ing PINK CAR !

See ya all soon

Okay, to phrase it a little better:
Where are all the drunk ---daisies--- staying?

Good question, as I do plan on being a drunk bastard.

Shite....Me and Rae will probably stay somewhere in town.  I slept at Ed's last time, which was fine. But I guess me and the lady will need more space so we talked about just getting a room close-by. Would you recommend the Naswa?

Edit: Reading is my friend. I just saw your earlier post. I'll talk to Rae tonight and we'll figure out what we are going to do and post back soon.

I'm all booked at the Naswa!

For some reason there's a 2 night minimum stay for the beach-front room that we got last time, so we took one of their motel rooms instead.

I'm still looking for a cheaper room, $169/night is just WAY TOO MUCH. Me & Rae stayed in New York, right off Central Park (57th ave.) for $89/night. I mean Weirs Beach/Funspot is cool and all, but it ain't no New York.

Dave.

It looks like I'll be shooting up just for the day by myself because I've got plans early sunday morning.

If the weather is nice I'll be taking my motorcycle (02 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100) so I won't be able to fit my Bartop machine on the back.  ;)

Ed,

Count me and Rae in. Let me know what I can bring (food-wise). We'll be staying the night at the Comfort Inn in Concord. Exit 13 off 93. About 30min. away.

Looking forward to hanging out again.

Just a reminder:

Two more days!

Don't forget your Funspot coupons and if you print them from the web, remember to "cut them out". They won't take them otherwise.

Peace!

There's a 50% chance Erin will be coming with me.

Noon is probably better, it will give us an extra hour before the mosquitos come out to eat us at the cook out...

We should set a start and finish time, that way we know how to ration our tokens.  Say 12-3?  I don't remember how long we were there last time.

Ed: do you have a contact # in case someone gets lost?  Plus if someone is late we won't have to wait a 1/2 for them to arrive   ;)

Ok I just got off the phone with Dave (mr.C) so he should be there at noon.

If for some reason you don't make it by noon don't worry . I'll probably be under the tent waiting til 12:30 and if for some reason it's after 12:30 you can check the classics area for me I have short spiked hair,  I have a sunburn on my face a big nose , so you may even say it glows(like a light bulb). The last and most important detail I will be wearing an O'NEILL t-shirt it's navy blue white lettering on the back and light blue lettering on the front. don't be shy come up and introduce yourself.

I'll check the board tomorrow morning before I leave just to make sure everythings good with everyone.

See ya Sat  at noon under the tent

Well, we ended up getting there ~1:30.  We stopped to get lunch, and that put us off by about 45 minutes.

I looked *everywhere* for you guys!  I was especially looking for Ed in his "O'Neil" shirt and big nose.  I was even asking guys 'you with arcadecontrols?'

I couldn't find your cell, Ed.  Likely could have found you in ten seconds if I had the number.

Curses!

Friggin hell, that sucks!  We were all wondering if you had gotten there or not.  My GF Lee-Ann was saying that she saw someone with twin boys in red jackets and we were wondering if that was you but none of us could pick them out of the crowd again!

We had this great plan to look arround for someone with twins and just shout "Arthur" into the general public to see if anyone would respond...  Apparently no one fit the bill though.

Maybe next time...

[edit] looking back on the rest of this topic, I don't see anything about you having twins, but Lee-Ann said she saw it somewhere...[/edit]

No, I don't have twins.  I've got two boys, ages 4 and 2.

http://www.pealefamily.net/gallery/

And we separated when we got there, joining up occasionally.

I didn't play many games, unfortunately.  Next time we go, we're leaving the kids with a sitter.

Yeah, we were stuck there also. I think we were between exits 3 and 4 for about 2 hours before traffic started moving. If we hadn't had our hotel room all paid for I think we might have turned around too.

I'm glad we didn't though - everyone had a great time again! We stayed around Weirs Beach on Sunday and checked out some of the little old arcades around the promenade too; I put a quarter in an old fortune teller machine and wished I was big, but I didn't wake up today looking like Tom Hanks (thank god!).

Doh'  I turned around at exit 3.  I almost tried to go back up at 2pm but I thought everyone would already be gone.  I guess next time we'll have to be a little more organized, (multiple phone #'s and a back up meeting time/location)

All of you guys/gals will always be welcome to hitch a ride with me for future events (I'm sure Ed feels the same way too). I don't mind picking up local people, and for the city folk, there's a commuter train that comes right to my town (Lowell) from Boston.

crashwg,

I'd quote you, but I think the additional smilies would crash the internet.

Sucks about the car. I'm about to sink $800+ I can't afford, into drastically needed new tires/shocks for mine. ouch. All I can think about is all the computer equipment I could get for that.
