In my attempt to fix up an old DK cocktail into a Mame machine, I am now at the coin drop piece.

It is a .1875" (3/16") thick piece of aluminum. It has the angle coin slot, the coin return (but is missing the U loop to hold the coin once it come out the coin return.

Anyway, the previous owner painted it black and added two new holes on either side of the coin insertion slot for some unknown reason (even drilled into the mech on the back.

I attempted to fill these holes with the plasticized wood putty (GOOD stuff, make rocks in about 5 minutes), but unfortunately it doesn't have enough thickness/surface area to attach on the aluminum, so the little "pellets" of filler popped out while sanding them.

Is there a product that will work really well and ahere to the aluminum forming a permanent bond?  Any of those tubes of liquid metal/etc?? (forget what they're called)

I will be priming it and finishing it with aluminum spray paint, so I need something that will accept paint, and will hide all the scratches already on the surface.

Any help is appreciated.

How about aluminum itself?  Melt down a can and drop the molten stuff into the hole (you'll need something on the back).  You'll have to make sure it's clean, of course.

For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the stuff, but I saw some infomercial where you use a propane torch or heat gun to heat up the stuff you want to fix, and touch the rod of filler (metal) to it.  When it flows like flux, bingo, you're good to go.

If someone can remember the name of that stuff, that's the stuff to use.  They used it to re-form a mounting bracket for an alternator!

Like I said, it was an infomercial, it came in rods, and melted like flux at the right temp.  I'll see if I can do a bit more research and post what the heck it is unless someone else beats me to it.

I got a comment from someone at work.  They said pick up a couple small aluminum screws, then screw them into the holes (making it self-thread or pre-thread with a steel screw) and use Loctite screw gripper to freeze it in there.

Then after it hardens, saw off the remants of the aluminum screwpoking out each side and take a sharp utility knife to cut through level with the surface and then sand with a sander to level.

Fill any remaining gaps with either the plasic wood putty or metal filler and then prime and paint and it should look like new and not have to fear about anything pushing out.  Use at least a 32 TPI screw.

I'll try it and see what it does.
