What is inside x-arcade?
« on: July 31, 2004, 05:52:12 pm »
Hey,
I have currently build an arcade cabinet hooked up to a pc. I use the IPAC
interface. I want to add an xbox, and someone suggested getting a x-arcade
board and using it instead of an IPAC, then use the adapters you have to
connect any system? I have a few technical questions I hop you can help me
out with.

1) do you sell just the interface boards and guts? I have all my own
buttons etc......
2) how does analog work?
3) I have been the board inside the x-arcade is similar to an IPAC how
many inputs does it have? there are not many buttons on the x-arcade and I
would need more.
4) if not more inputs, could I add an ipac to the system as well?
5) I do not like the casing of the x-arcade and want to have my own
panel....can i dismantle an x-arcade and do that?
6) the x-arcade has a keyboard ps2 adapter in..what about out?
7) you ship to me in canada?
8) if negative on selling the boad.. do u sell refurbed items?
9) I have been told the single player unit has the exact same interface
board/inputs as the two player? is this true.. cause i dont need the unit
so it would be cheaper.
10) has anyone else emailed you about somthing similar? what did you
suggest?

I gotta tell you the xarcade is much easier then I can use pc and any
system. Please let me know if you can assist me..

thanks very much
Jim Richardson

I am currently using the x-arcade controller and an x-box for my machine. I am not very computer literate so I chose a modded x-box to run my machine. The x-arcade can be connected to PS 2, x-box or a computer with adapters that they supply. If connected to a comp, the buttons are programable. To switch to analog ,on the x-arcade you push a series of buttons and the same thing to switch back. It takes about 5 seconds to switch between modes. As for your other questions,I am not familiar with I-pac,yes you can dismantle the controler and make your own control panel. ( I dismanteled mine to change the color of the buttons,by the way the buttons were not configed right) I used x-arcade because I was not familiar with wiring controlls. It works fine for most games ,but I would still like to have a track ball and a spinner.
My tag line was inappropriate for a family oriented site. It has been changed by saint.<-- THATS better than anything I could have come up with!!!!!!! Thanks Saint!!!-

Hey
Ok I am looking to the actual guts of the thing. I want to have the x-arcade features wired to my current panel BUT my panel has approx 26-28 buttons. The x-arcade has a max of 20 right? Can I wire the ipac in as well for the other buttons?
I was thinking.....using the x-arcade for my ingame buttons.. then have ipac connect for the rest like mame config buttons etc.

Not sure if this works maybe will but heres my thoughts.
Dismantle the unit and hook into exiisting control panel.

then i could...
Idea 1
-connect xarcade to PC via its ps2 port. then on the xarcade where the keyboard plugs in plug in the IPAC.. then have the keyboard on the ipac....? so i use the xarcade and the ipac/? would this work? the ipac acts as a keyboard so in theory it should plus give me many additional buttons?

Idea2
x-arcade to USB. then use IPAC PS2??? only thing is will emulators and front ends reconize both? or only one? cause only one keyboard sort of thing?

just some ideas.
I do like the x-arcade how it is easily moved etc........

Please help me out I need to get this sorted out soon to complete my cab.

Does anyone know where to get just the guts? is it true that the single player has the exact same board as the dual? I have emailed x-aracde no reply yet.

thx
JIM

I would use the ipac.  I havent opened up my xarcade.  But its was $150 from frys.  I wouldn't want to rip it apart and have a $150 piece of wood lying around.  The ipac is all you need and supports up to 56 inputs I believe and only costs around $50.  If you are going to be building your own controls I suggest getting an ipac or similar product as they dont run very much and are very easy to configure.  That's what I'm getting for my cabinet.

Errr.
I have an ipac  now and use it. I want xbox and other consoles to connect very easily and the x-arcade would allow me to do it.  I know ipac is easy to set up etc.. but i want both worlds.. no xbox control hack does analog.. BUT X-arcade does

thanks

demon, look up snakke..i think you were the one thinking about xbox hacks.  snaake has a hack for both ps2/xbox/gc contoller i think..

then..i brought a 4 way ps2 to usb convert (i will be building 4player cp)
i tried it out, works pretty good.  so now i have ps2 access and emulator use.

in the future i plan on buying ps2 to dc converter to play last few remaining games if i can't run chankast on those games...

Hey
Yea I have been talking with snaake and he is doing some artwork for me now, when he is done  I may consider the hacks BUT I have been dealing with him and he says that ANALOG cant be done.

Either idea should work, AFAIK.

Nope, they used to sell them separately, was told about six months ago they no longer do.  You could maybe get a refurbished one for less money, try 1-866--942-6464 M-F 9-5 EST rather than E-mail.

Pretty sure someone posted previously that it was.

thx
