That isn't really a pc, it is a motherboard in a case.

Wow that's awesome!  I ordered one.  I have nice parts lying around to put into it, except a cpu and cpu cooling fan.  I figure I will sit on it for 6 months and buy the CPU when they're really cheap.  It should make a nice upgrade from my PIII 600.  Thanks for the tip!

Warning:  Search Fatwallet.com, BensBargains.net and ResellerRatings.com for information regarding the tactics of both TigerDirect and Soyo.

You likely will NEVER receive your rebates.  Take a very close look at the rebates (at least one if not more than one have these terms every time they offer this system). It will have a period, say Jan - Dec 2004 for purchases. It will state that you must mail your rebate within 30 days of purchase, and the last post mark date is Jan 2005.  Then it continues on to state that processing of rebates will not *begin* until "the last post mark date" and processing your rebate will take 16 weeks.   That means that even if you bought and send in your rebate in July 2004, they won't start processing it until February 2005 and won't send your check until June 2005.

However, by then you'll have totally forgotten about the rebate and they actually won't send it.  If you check the sites out above you will find that there are numerous reports of fraud by Tiger Direct and Soyo and most people don't get their rebates and those that do have to do multiple calls to each company threatening BBB reporting and/or lawsuits to get a check written.  And multiply this by the total number of separate rebates you need to send in for these systems.. usually 3-5 rebate forms.

If you indeed got the rebate, it would be a great system, but not even the (psuedo-legitimate) heavy rebating places like OfficeMax/Staples, who WILL stand behind a contested rebate (eventually) can/have ever offered anything with this much of a discount.   Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Edit: Just FYI, you can get a similar (or better) AMD motherboard for $27 shipped from NewEgg and a case/power supply for between $25 and $35 shipped from NewEgg as well. So ~ $50 will get you something of your choosing and no rebate he11.

Edit2: Correct spelling

I wasn't going to bring up TigerDirect rebates AGAIN on this board, but now I will second MonitorGuru.

DON'T BUY FROM TIGERDIRECT!!!  Never, ever, ever.... just don't.... their rebates are a scam and a half, they routinely ship terribly, and they have been known to send the wrong items purposely and tell people the right product was sent.  They've also boxed up different models (say a crappy CRT) in a different box (say... high end sony box) and sell them refurb with no refunds.  You get a Sony box with a crap monitor.

Think I'm making stuff up? Go read up on it... they are nothing but trouble.  Just stick to NewEgg or ZipZoomFly.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

A laptop manufacturer I used to work for sold through TigerDirect among many other places, and I got a lot of calls from angry customers who had to deal with Tiger.  Out of all the places we sold through, by far Tiger was the worst.  I work at a different laptop manufacturer now, and we refuse to sell through Tiger.

I quit buying from Tiger due to the rebate problems I had.....

STAY AWAY......Buy at your own risk

Here's a quote from Tiger's rebate center:

Quote
IMPORTANT NOTE: Collection/payment of rebates is between customer and manufacturer. TigerDirect.com assumes no liability or guaranty of payment of third party rebates. Use of any rebates here is limited to the terms and conditions as determined by the manufacturer. If you have questions on these terms and conditions, please contact the manufacturer for assistance.

so basically they know you aren't gonna get it and don't want any responsability for it but love to advertise the after rebate price

Right on, don't buy items with * in the price. You can still buy normal no rebate, but don't fall for mail in.

PaigeO- No, they're not whole computers, but they're a nice start for $0.00  ;)

As for rebates, you guys may be right- I've never done a Tiger or Soyo rebate before.  I DID buy a system like this a while back, guess I'll be finding out if they pay or not.  Wish me luck!

And JerryJanis- Good luck to you as well!

I've been screwed by Tigerdirect rebates myself in the past...

I will never buy from that company again.  They are horrid.

Here's another vote against tiger. Forget about your rebate. No matter how well you follow thier instructions they'll find a way to void it and you are stuck without the rebate. I know from experience. Go to Newegg.com.

I will have to say that I have had nothing but good experiences with TigerDirect.

My wife's cousin ordered a Soyo PC through them(No rebate involved) and it arrived the next day!  The PC has run perfectly since day one.

I purchased an entire PC kit (Case, MB, HD, Vid Card, CD-Rom, Mouse, Keybord, CPU, Fan, etc) from them.  There were two rebates. I received both.  They took a while to arrive, but I did get them.  I have had no problems with the PC. They have an outlet near me, so I don't have stuff shipped.

I have since purchased a broadband router from them.  It was a refurbished D-Link DI-604.  I have had no problems with it at all.

I intend to go back soon and buy a 21" monitor, DVD burner and 200 gig HD within the next week or two.

For ages tigerdirect was the ONLY online merchant I would buy from.  Iv'e never had a bad experience after all these years.

About the rebates:

The key is actually reading.  I think some people feel they were screwed out of a rebate but simply didn't send it in, in-time.  Usually, by the time tiger advertises a reabte deal the rebate only has a couple of weeks left.  By the time you actually get the product there could be maybe one day or no days left.  You have to take note of the rebate expiration BEFORE you buy and make sure you'll have time to send it in. If you do that you'll be fine.

Well, when I shop for something I take my time and read up on it extensively. To the point in fact that it sometimes pisses my wife off cause I take so long to buy. I do take the rebate deadlines and everything else into consideration before I make my decision. Tiger has screwed me twice. I even have direct tele #'s to a Jerry and a Pedro who work there cause I had to call so many freakin' times to get issues resolved. Sorry but I wouldn't recomend them to anybody! But I'm glad you had good luck. Maybe I should try ordering thru you next time?  ;)

The two rebates that I sent in actually had three months until the deadline.
