Backlit material help...
« on: July 24, 2004, 12:54:55 am »
Ok, I wanna cover my control panel with a backlit material (behind plastic, that is), but I need to know what type of material to use.  What I'm aiming for is to allow light through ONLY the non-black areas.  Specifically I want my logo and button labels to glow, but don't want the light to "bleed" around them.  I'd like to know the name of the material, cost, and location of where to get it printed.  I won't have internet access anymore, since I'm moving out of my roommate's house, but will check occasionally at the library.  So if I don't respond right away, that's why.
BTW, I pay for the internet here, but am choosing not to get it at my new place.  Internet takes time away from my frontend programming / artwork portion of the cab building show, and I seem to amass a huge collection of junk on my HD because of it.  Think of it as self-inflicted intervention ;D !  Thanks.

One very easy way to avoid light bleeding through where you don't want it at is to simply glue some aluminium foil to the back of the backlit material and then cut out only the areas you want light to go through.  This will allow you to use whatever backlit material you like.  Some adhesives have solvents in them so test the glue on an area that will be cut out like a button hole.
