8Liners Monitors
« on: July 23, 2004, 12:56:55 am »
Are the monitors from 8Liners any good? I am thinking about picking up a 25" but the price seems so much lower than most of the other offerings. So are they?

Heres an example... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=49230&item=8119459484&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

All his 25" 8liners monitors are is a $95 chassis connected to a USED off-the-shelf consumer TV tube and put in an arcade frame.

You can build the same thing yourself by finding a cheap/free used 25" TV (or just tube) and buying his $95 chassis and putting it in. (See the 8liners threads here in this forum)

I've had mixed results with the 19 inch chassis.  I used one in my vertical mame machine and it works great with an orion tv the lady across the street threw out.  On my Kick machine, I cant get the horozontal adjustment correct and the picture wont stay steady.  Its on the original arcade tube in the game.  On my Spy Hunter my impedence is too low so I get some pincushion.

Just a note on service on the 25" chassis, I had one that worked on a 25" tube, and was testing on a 27" tube. After bad results on the 27" I transfered it back to it's 25" and the chassis would not come up.

Even though the 27" was powering up, between shutting it down and reseating it on the 25" somehow the HOT got roasted.

The symptoms are upon power up you can hear a high pitched whine repeated every 5 to 10 seconds as the power supply tried to ramp up.
Replaced the hot and all is good.

Later,

Bought a 25" 8liner monitor off ebay, Seems to be a good bright picture but i'm getting a small wavy line on the left side of my screen. Still trying to figure out how to fix it.

I picked  up a 25" complete monitor from them a few weeks ago and love it.
